Lelie returns to Hawaii football
HONOLULU (AP) - Former NFL wide receiver and Hawaii football star Ashley Lelie is returning to the University of Hawaii.
Lelie says he wants to complete his bachelor's degree in history and serve as a student manager for the Warriors.
As a student manager, Lelie will receive a tuition waiver and be allowed to offer advice to the receivers.
Lelie departed Hawaii before his senior year to enter the 2002 NFL draft, where the Denver Broncos selected him with the 19th pick in the first round.
But his career faltered following a 2006 holdout from training camp over his demotion to second string.
He played for the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs before being cut last September.
