Downtown loses power due to overheated transformer
ADVOCATE STAFF REPORT
Residents and businesses south of downtown lost power for a few hours Tuesday night.
At 5:28 p.m., an underground cable along Laurent Street near East Juan Linn Street failed, causing a breaker to trip, said Elgin Janssen, community affairs manager for American Electric Power.
The outage affected 156 customers, most of which were businesses, he said.
That outage caused a transformer to overheat, and at 6:08 p.m., another 1,136 customers lost power. Those affected were mostly south of downtown between Laurent Street and the Guadalupe River, Janssen said.
All power was back on by 8 p.m.
