A piece of little-known Texas history was shared with more than 100 people who attended the screening of "Border Bandits" on Tuesday night.

The audience filled the 75-seat Alcorn Auditorium at the University of Houston-Victoria and flowed into the multi-purpose room to watch the documentary.

"It's very educational. It helps me understand more Mexican-American history," said Christopher Zapata, 16, of Victoria, who attended with his parents.

The documentary, produced by Kirby Warnock, of Dallas, tells the story of Mexican-Americans killed by Texas Rangers as told to him by his grandfather, Roland Warnock.

Warnock said the documentary is just one of the many stories in his book "Texas Cowboy."

"It's just an effort to prove that my granddad was telling the truth," said Warnock, who researched the Texas Rangers and found dramatic transfer of land from Mexican-Americans to whites.

The Mexican-American Student Organization, which sponsored the event, found it a great opportunity for people to learn about Texas and Mexican-American history.

"I'm a big advocate of the Mexican-American culture" said Xochitl Alaniz, president of the student group.

Warnock also interviewed descendants of Antonio Longoria, one of the Mexican-American landowners killed by Texas Rangers.

"I still have people contact me," said Warnock, who told the audience he felt strongly about sharing the facts that have not necessarily been told in history books.
