Nursing home, hotel brings jobs, development to Ganado

GANADO - The city of Ganado will open the doors of a new nursing and rehabilitation home Thursday as construction continues on a $1.3 million hotel facility near downtown.
The developments will create new jobs and hopefully attract visitors, said Mayor Clinton Tegeler.
"We're looking at more than tripling the number of jobs," Tegeler said. "Hopefully with the increased amount of residents and the demand from out of town residents we'll see an increase of visitors."
The Ganado Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will create about 90 new jobs, he said. The home will sponsor an open house from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday for tours and refreshments at 107 E. Rodgers St.
The facility, which is licensed to hold about 92 residents, will nearly double the amount it currently holds.
Meanwhile hotel construction continues on the future Budget Inn located at the corner of York and Fourth streets. Clinton hopes the 41-bed facility will allow people a place to stay locally and create about 15 new jobs.
"It gives us an opportunity for us to capitalize on that locally rather than them having to drive to Edna or El Campo or Victoria," Tegler said.
