Don't panic: It's just a police, emergency response team exercise
Emergency officials said they will conduct Saturday a training exercise in east Victoria south of Miori Lane and between Sam Houston Drive and John Stockbauer Drive.
Jeb Lacey, the county's emergency management coordinator, said the exercise will help to ensure that police officers are ready to assist the community during events that could affect entire neighborhoods.
He said that could include such events as urban search-and-rescue events, mass-welfare checks following disaster, flash-flood or river-flood evacuations, or searching for missing children and elderly adults.
During the exercise, members of the Victoria Community Emergency Response Team will be activated to assist local law enforcement. The team of volunteers will wear brightly colored vests to make them easily identifiable.
There will also be a telephone test of the new Victoria Reverse-911 call system called Global Connect.
The Global Connect system will be used to notify residents that a training exercise is occurring in their neighborhood, along with a brief description of the exercise situation.
