  • i have seen the traffic in that area. people abuse that stop sign. people are always flying through those. i wish the police would start giving out tickets to people who just roll through those signs. lots of times they don't even put on their brakes. they just drive straight trough.. i am glad this child was not seriously hurt, but it is only a matter of time before one is

  • The investigating officers probably made the right call. I can only imagine how the driver and the parents must feel at the thought of this near miss being a hit. Can anyone live with the death of a child from their hands? This needs to be a wake up call for everyone.

  • "The truck was at a complete stop on the corner of Lova Drive and Hummingbird Lane when the 6-year-old, whose name was not released, crossed into the crosswalk without looking and the truck slowly began accelerating, said Victoria Police Officer Travis Hanson."

Ok, maybe I missed it but the truck was STOPPED at an intersection that had a crosswalk. The child was walking in the crosswalk and THEN the truck slowly begin accelerating. If the child was in the crosswalk before the truck started moving, doesn't the pedestrian have the right-of-way? Or is this sentence written bad? Did the truck already start to move before the kid was in the crosswalk?

  • Lova Drive is a very busy street. What parent would let a 6 year old walk across any Victoria street much less that street? I have a 6 year old and my child isn't allowed to be outside alone unless she is in our fenced back yard where I can see her. The parents are at fault here.VISD is responsible for the children while they are at school and if parents and others want thier kids to be safe getting to and from school they need to take and pick them up or volunteer as a crossing guard.

  • I guess VISD has to babysit all these kids? Don't blame VISD, blame the parents of this child.
