GOLIAD-Students at Goliad Intermediate School have grown accustomed to principal Christy Paulsgrove greeting them every morning.
But that will change next school year as Paulsgrove will move across the street from the school to the administration building.
Paulsgrove is expected to be named the district's newest superintendent on Tuesday night at a special school board meeting. Last month she was named the lone finalist for the job .
The vacancy was created with Superintendent Sam Atwood resigned.
Former superintendent Buddy Young has served as interim superintendent during the search.
She will be the first woman superintendent.
"It's really hard for me to leave the students," said Paulsgrove, who will begin the transition from principal to superintendent in the remaining weeks of school.
The 58-year-old began her career with Goliad school district as a speech pathologist.
Her son Casey Horny recalls the various positions his mom held from teacher to assist superintendent.
"She takes a lot of pride in her work," said Horny.
Paulsgrove, a Goliad native, retired for two years before returning to education as the intermediate school principal this school year.
"I decided I missed the kids too much and the school," said Paulsgrove who has been in education for 35 years.
"I'm excited about what she's going to do with this position," said Horny.
Paulsgrove hopes to remain hands-on with students as superintendent.
"My first love is really to be with the kids," said Paulsgrove, who hopes to continue to welcome students at Goliad intermediate, but only as the superintendent.
