Ricardo...You're right, of course, but there's no reason to HELP'EM. Make the cops jump through all the hoops. And, they might not call for the dogs.
familyman...I don't like the idea. I don't want to be subjected to a government search every time I go out of town. I'm not a crook, and I don't transport dope. Why would I be willing to spend a half-hour waiting in a line of cars and trucks for a dog to snif every car on Hwy 59? It poppa oscars me when the Victoria revenooers stop every car on Mockingbird checking for insurance. If they want to examine my license and insurance card -- or my national ID card if that ever happens -- during a regular stop because of an infraction, that is one thing, but to stop every car during a two hour span, isn't something I want to participate in.
OK guys! I have an idea that should work better. Use the weigh station on US59 near Inez to stop all traffic and search with a K-9 unit to check for drugs and explosives. This may take a few minutes out of the drivers day but would catch the crooks quicker. What do you think?
profiling at it's best!
Do you really think the trooper is gonna pack up and go if the driver does not consent to search? I think not. He will call in the K-9. Doper is busted either way. Thank you.
Okay, he was transporting 135 pounds of pot. I agree with the question, why would he speed, but I also wonder why he would he give consent to search the car. This makes me believe that TxBohemian has the right idea -- that he's a decoy. It seems that every time the cops find a bunch of dope on Hwy.59, the driver tells the cop that he has no problem with the cop searching the car. Unless they're working in a decoy capacity and the bad guys are taking care of the families while they're in the jug, I can't believe that many people would give permission for a search.

I wonder this myself. Or
Could he be just a decoy for when "Arriaga and other troopers" are tied up searching his car the other drugs, maybe 4700 bundles, pass right on by??
You hope that this guy just wasn't the smartest crook around, but it kinda gets you to thinking...
