Healthy Woman expo set for Thursday, May 13

It's a day for women to care about themselves and only themselves.
At least that's the reason DeTar Healthcare System began the Healthy Woman free expo, which will kick off its second year Thursday at the Victoria Community Center.
The exposition will have different local entities, like the American Cancer Society, providing important health information as well as information about the local resources offered specifically to women.
"Us women, we rarely take time out for ourselves and to educate ourselves," said Yvette Peuttus, healthy woman senior circle volunteer coordinator.
The expo will also offer free health screenings, door prizes and a silent auction.
In its first year, the expo brought 400 women together.
This year, plans are to hit the 600 mark, Peuttus said.
The expo was started because there was no other program that catered to women's needs, Peuttus said.
Women are busy taking care of their children, husband and sometimes aging parents.
The program gives women the ability to take charge of their health and the health of their family, Peuttus said.
After the expo, guest speaker Lisa Smartt, author of the book "The Smartt View: Life, Love, and Cluttered Closets," will speak and teach women about the importance of caring for themselves through mind, body and spirit.
That event, along with a buffet dinner is $20.
