Jaguars advance to championship game with win

The Jaguars' David Baker hits a two-run home run to give UHV the lead in the 11th inning against Thomas on Friday in Jackson, Tenn. The Jaguars will play the winner of Lambuth and Thomas Saturday at 11 a.m.

JACKSON, Tenn. - The University of Houston-Victoria is one win away from repeating as champion of the Association of Independent Institutions baseball tournament.

The Jaguars moved into the championship game with an 11-inning 10-8 win over Thomas University of Georgia on Friday at Pringles Park.

David Baker hit a two-run home run in the 11th inning as UHV improved to 30-20 with its third straight win at the tournament.

Pete Ontiveros picked up the win for the Jaguars with 3 innings of relief.

Austin Kent and Anthony Phillips each had three hits, including a solo home run for UHV.

Ryan Gilbert had three hits and a RBI and John Longoria had two hits and two RBI.

The Jaguars will play again Saturday at 11 a.m. They would clinch the tournament championship and a bid in the NAIA World Series Tournament with a win.

If UHV loses, it would play another game 30 minutes after completion of the first game to determine the championship.
