UHV headed to NAIA nationals

Chase Graves delivers  a pitch in UHV's 17-13 win over Lambuth on Saturday. The win put the Jaguars in the NAIA national tournament.

JACKSON, Tenn. - Things weren't looking good for the University of Houston-Victoria baseball team on Saturday against Lambuth.

Lambuth put up 8 runs in the top of the first inning off Casey Newman and Rex Garner.

They fought back, however, and trailed 11-9 going into the bottom of the eighth inning when they exploded for eight runs of their own. UHV eventually won 17-13 to advance to the national tournament.

Austin Kent scored four runs in the game and was named tournament MVP.

The rest of the offense was potent on Saturday as well: Ryan Gilbert, John Longoria, David Baker, Anthony Phillips and Joseph Briones each had multiple hits and multiple RBI.

In the double-elimination tournament, UHV didn't lose a single game.
