Museum Camps

The Museum of the Coastal Bend

Cost: $2 per child, per session

Description: An engaging story time and activity hour for children. Books include "Legend of the Bluebonnet," "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," "The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses," "Cock a Doodle Moo: A Mixed Up Menagerie," "Musicians of the Sun" and "The Story of Ferdinand and The Stinky Cheese Man."

Learn About Texas

Dates: Tuesday, June 15, through Friday, June 18

Ages: Children ages 6 to 9 years

Cost: $75 per child

Description: Texas is bigger than big. Discover true Texas spirit while participating in four sessions filled with interesting, fun-filled facts and activities about the great state of Texas.

Session size: Space is limited to 12 participants and advance registration is required.

Archeology 101

Dates: Tuesday-Friday, July 13-16

Times: 10 a.m.-noon

Ages: Children ages 10 to 12 years

Cost: $75 per child

Description: Explore the science of archeology from shards to skulls. Lay out a dig site and discover methods of cleaning, measuring and cataloging artifacts. Meet MCB's Mountain Men. Learn the tools of the trade and find out how early people lived off the land.

Discover rock art and see how early people passed on their stories, as you help to recreate those stories from long ago.

Wrap up the week at the McNeill Ranch. Under the direction of MCB's volunteer avocational archeologists and researchers, participate in an active dig site. Note: Parents will need to provide transportation to the site. Maps will be provided. Bring hats, sunscreen and closed toe shoes. Pants are required at the site.

Session size: Space is limited to 10 participants and advance registration is required.

Registration Deadline: A minimum of six participants for this camp to make and a maximum of 10 participants. The registration deadline is Tuesday, July 6.

Discovery Camps

Arts and crafts, under the sea creatures, tropical fun, life on the ranch, fiesta time, flower power and gardening fun, dinosaurs, music, weekly food and cooking instructions with Miss T, animals, space and under the big top.

Times: 9 a.m.-noon Monday through Friday on the following dates: June 14-18, June 21-25, June 28-July 2, July 12-16, July 19-23, July 26-30, Aug. 9-13, Aug. 16-20.

Ages: children 3-8 years of age

Camps include: Age-appropriate activities and information, time in the exhibits, and a snack.

Session size: Each camp is limited to 12 participants.

Fees: CDM members receive a discount on all CDM Discovery Camps.

Fees: Per camp per child are: $80 for members and $100 for non-member.

Daily camp rate is $16 per camp, per child for members, and $20 per camp, per child for non-members. No drop-offs allowed.

Registration must be paid a week in advance.

Special afternoon camps from 1-5 p.m. for children 6-8 years of age.

Camp fees are refundable 15 days before the start of scheduled camps, minus a $25 processing fee. Partial refund available for withdrawal 14 days prior to the camp.

KIDZ CAMP

We provide a safe, exciting, and adventurous summer program in a state licensed environment. Babysitting 101

Fee: $95

Ages: Grades sixth-12

Description: This course provides students ages 11 and older the information and skills to provide safe and responsible care for children. The course will include choosing safe and age appropriate toys/games, carrying out basic care, such as feeding, changing and holding, basic understanding of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Shaken Baby Syndrome, and the knowledge needed to handle basic emergencies. Students will receive Basic First Aid Lecture certificate from Victoria College and a CPR card from the American Heart Association and First Aid completion card.

CSI for Kids

Fee: $95

Ages: Grades fourth-eighth

When: 8 a.m.-noon Monday through Thursday, June 21-24.

A police officer with the Victoria Police Department Crime Scene Unit will lead the students in solving an imaginary crime from clues left at the scene. They will learn to recognize what to look for at a crime scene, why it is necessary to collect evidence and how to preserve it. They will play the role of a crime scene technician to interpret evidence that could be used to prosecute an offender in court. Some of the techniques that they will perform include: fingerprinting, photographs and securing the scene. A demonstration of footprint casting will be presented. Students will compile evidence they have collected and prepare it as if they were presenting it to a courtroom.

Digital Photography

You've got a camera, but you want to know how to improve your techniques and produce impressive images consistently? This camp will provide instruction on how to shoot the perfect photo using creative composition using different types of light and taking the shot when the moment is right. Students will take photos both indoors and outdoors and return to the classroom for a presentation and critique. Participants should bring their own camera and cables to the class and come prepared with the knowledge of how their camera works.

Grossology

Grossology . the science of really gross things. Squeamish, shrieks and squeals are the order of the day as we engage in delightfully repulsive projects that help us learn the science behind all the gross but cool workings of the human body and other gross things.

Guitar Basics

Fee: $95

Ages: Grades third-sixth and seventh-10th

Make music with a master. This basic guitar course will teach you to play the guitar using a guitar tablature. The course will also include some music theory for beginners, including standard music notation, chords diagrams and plucking/strumming techniques. You must provide your own guitar.

Rocket to the Stars

DNA Forensics, Genetics Camp

Description: Hands on exploration of DNA, cancer cells, genetics and forensics led by Richard Gunasekera, associate professor at University of Houston-Victoria.

Students will receive information on lab safety, lab protocols, research in the field, and techniques to use in the lab to learn about DNA, the formation and growth of cancer cells, how genetics effects us all and how a forensic pathologist works to solve crimes. On the last day of the camp, students will solve their own "crime" with skills they learned in the camp.

Summer Music Camp

The first annual summer music camp for children

Triple Threat Theatre Summer Camp 2010

One week intensive workshops build performance skills, confidence and illustrate what it means to be a "Triple Threat." Participants explore acting, singing and dancing, while they experience working within in group.

Stars of Tomorrow

Campers explore acting, singing and dancing, while they experience working within a group. Our newly discovered "stars" will shine brightly as they bring camp to close with "On The Boards," a short presentation designed to show the many skills and talents the week's activities have fostered. Campers will be divided into two age groups: 4-5 and 6-8.

Morning session will focus on the three disciplines - acting, singing and dancing. Afternoon sessions develop the practical application of these techniques. This year's camp will offer three different musical productions. For one night only the campers will perform in "Seussical Jr.," "Willy Wonka, Kids," and "Disney's Sleeping Beauty, Kids." Performances will be at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts at 6:30 p.m., June 19.

Classes and shows will be assigned by age and skill level.

T3 Olympics. Groups will vie for the coveted "T3 Olympic Goblet" as their newly honed skills are challenged. Teams earn points by participating in various theatrical skilled competitions. Parents, staff, campers and friends will enjoy a fun filled evening of food and friendly competition.

Manners and Etiquette

Little Miss Manners day camp

When: June 7-9 for girls 7-10; June 14-16 for girls 11-15.

During the four-day camp, campers will work with shelter animals to learn about pet care safety and training. Campers will also learn from guest speakers, play games and make animals crafts.
