Members of LALI, a civil rights organization through the San Carlos Boromeo Church in Houston, held a memorial service on Friday for the 19 illegal immigrants who died in an 18-wheeler near Victoria while traveling from Harlingen to Houston on May 14, 2003. "We go every year on the day the accident happened," Amelia Perez said in Spanish. The group recited the rosary and placed two murals at the site this year. The Victoria Victims Committee will hold a separate memorial service at noon Saturday at the site, at U.S. Highway 77 and Fleming Prairie Road.
