  • Wow, what issues and school has not even begun. I hear the reason there is no loop 463 access is due to landowner will not allow. I also hear that West is near capacity and VISD will need to re draw boundaries soon. Also, new middle school is not offering electives currently offered at other middle schools, ie, computer class, wood shop. Thought the new schools were supposed to offer more. That is what the teachers, faculty, etc. are filling our heads with anyway.

  • tstorm, I hear Denise Neal is stepping down as cheerleader sponsor. You should apply. Seriously-you have that Rah! Rah! spirit. You'd make a great cheerleader sponsor.

I'm not being sarcastic, I'm being sincere.

  • EdithAnn, maybe the hiring committee for West's principal is requiring over-the-top positive energy during application process? If anyone is a little low, I know someone who has more than enough toshare.

  • tstorm--VISD should pay you for your support. Or perhaps they already do. But in any event, you go BigT! I'll honk as I go by, so be sure and wave!

  • During the first week of September we will see what happens when the West campus isn't ready to have students/teachers. Unless crews work a whole boatload of nights, that West Campus will not be complete until after the first week of September. That's all I am going to say. I'll back here on September 10th with an apology for ever doubting or a simple "I told you so." I'm Not a naysayer, just a truth seeker.

  • The buck stops on Moore's desk because this project has been his baby all along. He designed it, he sold it to the Board and the committe formed to push his plan and he has orchestrated every last detail including the names, colors and mascots. That's how.

  • Edith,

How does the buck stop at Moore's desk if he works for the school board?

    May 19, 2010 at 7:53 p.m.
  • The buck stops on Bob Moore's desk. Period. Amen.

And for some reason, the school board, particularly since Moore became Superintendent, seems to think Moore is their boss and not the other way around.

PoppaSting--I did, and I voted. That earned me the right to criticize the result.

    The rest of you?

  • Need an egress, no problem. Need more street lighting and landscaping, we can get that also. We will float another 6% 10 year note and of course refi it in about 2 years and announce how much money we saved you taxpayers.

The only thing is we will need a 100% tax rate and then float another bond in about 10 years.

    Signed,

    VISD

    P.S.
For you taxpayers, please explain to your children what happened.

  • Edith,

bob moore made the recomendation that we build. the school board made the decision of where and how. i don't care for bob or the board, but place the blame where it deserves.

this community has a record of letting the school board run roughshod over it for years. when are we going to stand up and say enough is enough? we had a chance and did nothing, bernie and his stache were unopposed, along with Jimbo Murhpy. maybe we should go to some other community and recruit their school board members to relocate.

how does a school board that repeatedly tells the community that their input will have no bearing in their choices, get re-elected? unopposed no less!

maybe we should call john stossel. wait, if we get john stossel and bernie "the stache" klimst in the same room will the universe colapse in on itself?

  • There's a place to voice your opinion and that's at the school board meetings. Bob Moore convinced the school board on his plans for new schools. The people had the chance to convince the school board other wise but they didn't. Bob Moore isn't at fault here. People also make mistakes, the two schools should have never been split in the first place but it did. Now they are going back to two schools, either way someone isn't going to be happy. That's life. Take things in stride and live it day by day and not worry about the past.

Yes things need to be fixed, trust the city and trust the people will realize that they need more exits/entrances over by West. I'm sure that is in the plans but they have other things they need to finish first (like the school) so kids can come to school. Once that is done I'm sure more of these exits/entrances will be taken care of.

    Thank you and goodbye

  • Bob Moore convince a whole lot of folks that we needed two new high schools for 158M. That is what was voted on.

What he gave us was 2 high schools, a new junior high, and 2 new elementaries.

Can't outfit the junior high because we're out of money. Who knows what else will be lacking.

Now you tell me why he's not responsible.

  • EdithAnn-
How is it Bob Moore's fault again?

    May 19, 2010 at 11 a.m.
  • tstorm5--

When you finally access those services for your delusional thoughts about all things VISD, we will all be the better for it.

It is Bob Moore's fault whether you like it or not!

  • I just THANK GOD that my Senior daughter will only be going to school half a day at West, then going to work. She will only have to deal with the morning traffic.

    May 19, 2010 at 10:50 a.m.
  • "For the west high school and middle school property, please consider adding a second entrance/exit that feeds to a traffic light on the two land section of loop 463. This should helpl relieve the load on the now single entrance/exit on Hwy 87.

Loop 1604 in San Antonio has several of these intersections that provide safe access to and from the loop. A second access to and from these schools seems to make since for some 3000 students, teachers, employees, parents, and others who will be coming and going daily."

Great suggestion, Beakus!! The schools are where they are, no moving them, now. The best thing is to find a reasonable and safe solution. I think Beakus is on to something here, and hope that someone who can make changes sees this and seriously considers it as an option, if not now, later when it becomes obvious that a solution is needed.

  • RE: tstorm5
The decision to build these schools was NOT offered to the public. The school board along with the city council made that decision without allowing input from the Monday Quarterbacks, or anyone else. They actualy made the statement that they were the only people qualified to make a decision on this matter and would not consider any outside input. If you think about it a moment - you will remember all the controversy that was going on about it.

  • Building the two schools on what is probably one of the most ineptly designed interchanges in the state/country/universe wasn't that great an idea even if the price of the property was right. I agree that a lot of the high school students won't ride the bus because it is sort of nerdy and uncool. Let's get a whole bunch of inexperienced harmone-driven drivers on the road all at once at 330 in the afternoon! That's the ticket! Let the slaughter begin!!! Good thing there's a nearby hospital and EMS access.

  • Good idea, but the VHS campus is kind of far away from West isn't it? So now you'd have half of Victoria driving to the east side of town to get on buses that will take them back to the West side school?

    May 19, 2010 at 9:08 a.m.
  • Here's an idea....mandatory park and ride for the West Campus/Cade Middle School. Use the VHS (Sorry, I'm a grad of VHS and that campus is still VHS to me) for the pick up area. All students (and teachers, if wanted) park there and get on the buses to go to West/Cade. Doesn't matter which bus, since all will go there. Would save tons of money, rather than drive through all the subdivisions to pick up, would have central location and pick up times....say starting at 7:30 or so and ending at the time before school starts. Knowing that the last bus leaves at X time. It could work and wouldn't take as much fuel or drivers, either.

    May 19, 2010 at 9:02 a.m.
  • Again, who made these stupid suggestions to build the schools where they are now located? This is a complete SNAFU!

    May 19, 2010 at 9 a.m.

  • It is absolutely mind-boggling that we have new schools about to open for business and there are so many major issues that were not addressed before folks signed the checks for these adventures.

I suppose now we will read where VISD had to purchase a bunch of new buses because they are offering bus service. The majority of high school students, of driving age or not, are not going to ride the bus. It just wouldn't be cool.

When is Victoria going to wake up and smell the coffee? Bob Moore was not, is not and will not be the answer.

    May 19, 2010 at 6:24 a.m.
  • Yeah right? Houston there is a problem, still cannot understand how the east side school that has four freaking streets that surround it, still needs an overpass compared to the west and the junior high which is surround by one street and that street is a highway!!!!!! And these people think busing will solve the problem? And all those kids will use a bus! You got to be kidding me!
