NEWLY ANNOUNCED PERSONNEL HIRES
Debbie Crick, current principal at Howell Middle School, will be principal at Victoria West High School.
Kimberly Barker, principal in Decatur school district, will be principal at Chandler Elementary School.
James Taylor, currently an assistant principal at Crain Middle School, will be principal at Rowland Elementary School.
Lynn Guerra, currently assistant principal at Dudley Magnet School, will be principal at Schorlemmer Elementary School.
All students who will attend Victoria West High School and Cade Middle School will be eligible for busing due to living in a hazardous area.
Hazardous areas at Cade, West and 14 other schools were identified and approved at a Victoria school board meeting Thursday.
"Every year, we get approval from the school board on what will be considered a hazardous area," said Angie Sherman, school district director of transportation. "This can be because of traffic, speed limit, different aspects. It's done to avoid students walking across streets with fast, heavy traffic."
Victoria East High School students who live on Salem Road north of the Zac Lenz Parkway are also eligible for busing, Sherman said.
Generally, the school district does not provide transportation for students who live within a two-mile radius of the school unless they live in an area deemed by the board as hazardous.
In July, parents can go to the district's website, www.visd.com, put in their address, and find out what bus their children can take, the bus location and times, Sherman said.
In other business, the school board elected officers for the year. Tami Keeling is now president, with Bernie Klimist as vice president and Ross Mansker as vice president.
