Victoria Police Department Detectives are investigating a shooting death in east Victoria early Sunday morning.
Shortly before 3 a.m., the Victoria Police Department received 9-1-1 calls reporting a shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Regency, just off North John Stockbauer Drive and Mockingbird Lane. While enroute, police located the victim, 26-year-old Brian Franklin, with multiple gunshot wounds, being transported to the hospital via private automobile, on Mockingbird Lane. VFD EMS quickly arrived on Mockingbird Lane, rendered immediate medical attention, and transported the victim to Citizens Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 5:15 a.m.
The victim lived in the apartments on Regency Drive. Earlier, the victim, along with several acquaintances, were at the nightclub “Shady Shady O” located at 2409 Port St. in south Victoria. Police were advised that a fight broke out inside of the club shortly before closing, involving an acquaintance of the victim and other persons. Police are investigating any correlation between the earlier fight and the fatal shooting of Franklin.
The Victoria Police Department is not releasing further details of the investigation, including “suspect” or“suspects” information, as the criminal investigation is ongoing.
Anyone who believes he or she may have witnessed the shooting, or may have additional information, is urged to call the 24-hour Victoria Crime Stoppers tip line at (361) 572-4200. If this information leads to an arrest or indictment, the caller could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.00. All callers will remain anonymous.
More details will be reported in Monday's Advocate as they become available. The newsroom may be reached at 361-580-6511.

BRIAN WILL TRUELY BE MISSED!! I WILL NEVER 4GET THE SOUND OF HIS LAUGHTER. NOW ILL JUST HOLD IT IN MY MEMORY FOR AS LONG AS I CAN.
May 25, 2010 at 8:02 a.m.Victoria, what is happening to you? Where is the hometown feeling you once had. You are slowly slipping into being the most murderous city in Texas, per capita. You are not the "big city". You are the "crossroads". The youth of today are so quick to pick up a gun to resolve their problems; problems which are'nt really problems at all. You want to know what a problem is? This little girl growing up to be all she can be without her "daddy" in her life. These parents having to bury their child who by rite should have outlived them. The family, friends, and loved ones who now have one less family member, friend, and loved one. These are problems! So, the next time you want to pick up a gun and resolve a nonproblem, place yourself in both the dead mans and the shooters shoes then place your family, your friends, and your loved ones only in the place of the dead mans family, friends, and loved ones shoes. Take a good, long, hard look. What do you see? Life is good all the time and all the time, life is good.

May 23, 2010 at 11:59 p.m.gop love child do u just get online to disrespect people, if u dont have anything good to say or know the situation, dont say anything at all
May 23, 2010 at 11:43 p.m.Yes, Lonnie you do say much about your love for your friend. You said it in a way he would understand. Ignore "Others" who cannot appreciate your words in a time of such grief. God Bless you and the family who has lost so much and the little one who will not know the touch of her father's arms.
May 23, 2010 at 10:24 p.m.What a tragic ending. My prayers go out to the family and friends of this young man. Hope police catch the low-life that took the life of another. This criminal will have his judgement one day and he/she will have to face our maker. -|-
May 23, 2010 at 10:13 p.m.Lonnie, Lonnie, Lonnie, you say so much about you and brian.
May 23, 2010 at 10:07 p.m.The loss of a young person in such a trajic way is saddening. As Victoria morphs itself into a metropolitan area with all its trappings, let us say we reached out to the young people among us with meaningful interventions ; rather then the same arrogant Victoria response of the false belief that this kinda tragedy is far removed.
May 23, 2010 at 4:19 p.m.Whoever did this I want you to know you didn`t win.You are the biggest loser ever.No I`m sorry no you`re not.His family and kids are don`t you think? Much love homie and may you rest in peace.
