The Rev. John Peters, center, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, checks on new additions to the hall that will be site of the annual spring picnic on Sunday. Joining Peters are Leon Etzler, Knights of Columbus grand knight, left, and Roger Janak, member of the local council.

HALLETTSVILLE - If there is a star of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church parish picnic Sunday, it might be the Knights of Columbus Hall, site of the annual event.

An additional 6,700 square feet of roofing was recently added to the facility that has more than two acres under roof.

The new roofing provides more shade for those waiting in line for lunch and more covered visiting area, said the Rev. John Peters, church pastor.

The annual picnic includes lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Drive-thru plates to-go are available until 1 p.m. Lunch includes country-fried chicken, stew and homemade cornbread dressing.

Adult plates are $7 and children's plates, $4.

The day includes music on the main pavilion with J&S Playboys from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A free dance in the polka pavilion with Red Ravens and the Jodie Mikula Orchestra will be held from 1 to 9 p.m.

An auction, featuring cattle and a variety of antiques, begins at 1 p.m.

Rides and games for children will be available all afternoon. A washer-pitching tournament starts at 5 p.m.

There will also be bingo from noon to 6 p.m., a cake walk, country store and religious gifts booth.

Concessions will be available throughout the day.
