Clouds move in over the South Texas Project nuclear power plant near Bay City. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will be discussing the plants performance of safety procedures on Thursday.

BAY CITY - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold an open house Thursday to inform the public about how the South Texas Project nuclear plant performed last year in its safety procedures.

Members of the public are invited to attend and learn about how the annual assessments of safety performance are conducted.

A letter from the NRC staff to plant officials will involve much of the discussion Thursday. The letter provides an assessment of the plant's performance.

"Overall, South Texas Electric Generating Station operated in a manner that preserved public health and safety and fully met all cornerstone objectives," reads the letter addressed to Edward Halpin, president and chief executive officer of the STP Nuclear Operating Co.

The letter and performance information for the STP plant are available on the Web.
