Uggh. What a messed up town

"Hang the high" sigh
November 5, 2010 at 6:26 p.m. -
Oh Boo.... "it was not looking good for the chief" ???? Oh my..... Sounds like the trial had not even started..... Surely you are not proud saying this? Maybe so.... Shame.
November 5, 2010 at 6:22 p.m. -
Boo: hopefully you will never be on any future juries of your peers. I would imagine that the attorney could have been exploring potential juror's "Hang the high!" attitude. You should be ashamed that you were a potential "unbiased" juror who had interpreted a question and linked it to guilt. Oh... BEFORE the trial. Sounds like you had it figured out BEFORE any testimony. Shame, shame on you!

Good grief people these campaign signs are all over town. All over the county. Everywhere. They belong to Tyler, Perry, Dierlam, Branch, Ives and just about every other person who ran. And at least one of just about everyone of these persons is in the city or county right of way. I don't need to go out and take pictures to prove that. Just go out and look for yourself. If we are gonna gripe about one lets gripe about all. Bottom line is the election is over and it's time to take them down.
This petty stuff just ticks me off! We have people with out jobs, people who don't know how they are gonna pay their light bills or feed the kids, people who can't afford to buy their medicine this month and the list could go on and on and we are worried about political signs??????? Makes no sense.

I was part of the jury panel that was called to prosecute the Chief of Police: Mr. Ure. His attorney asked every one in the room, who were potential jurors, this question: "If a person is convicted of a crime like this, would you be in favor of giving that person probation." This was prior to the trial. It sounded, to me, that Mr. Ure's group knew he was going to be found guilty & were already working on reducing his punishment. Unfortunately, the case never proceeded but is was not looking good for the Chief. I voted for Tyler & I think he will continue doing a good job. As far as I am concerned the money he spent trying to convict some in house crooks was better spent than the money the city gave our city attorney to leave.
November 4, 2010 at 4:15 p.m. -
I voted FOR Tyler.
November 4, 2010 at 3:07 p.m. -
@Speakup1968.....I know for a fact Deborah Branch stuck signs in places ILLEGALLY. She put a sign in my yard and certainly did NOT have permission! I also know that Steve Tyler got permission from every property owner that he put a sign up at! Know the facts before you speak!!
November 4, 2010 at 10:50 a.m. -
I don't know about anyone else but I did vote a split ticket. And Steve Tyler was one I voted for. I believe I've read all the articles and seen all the newscasts everyone else saw and nothing I saw or read made me feel Tyler was not doing his job or was doing anything shady.
November 3, 2010 at 7:11 p.m.
I must be wrong because many of you seem to have the "inside information" the rest of us in the general public don't have. So if you wanted him out of office you should have spilt the beans a long time ago. It's a little late to be hinting about wrong doing now. -
dragenrider...."The voters have spoken, however, even if their voice was ill informed or ill considered."....that's exactly what I was saying 2 years ago today.
November 3, 2010 at 7:10 p.m. -
There can be no denying that Tyler benefited from all the people who voted a straight rebublican ticket. I imagine a lot of conservatives angry about the national democrats used this mid-term as a chance to send a message.
Even so, Tyler won and that's that. I'm wondering what happened to Branch's campaign. Other than a public forum and a half page ad in the Vic Ad I never heard from her. Tyler had his name and message EVERYWHERE. Billboards, radio and TV ads, strategically timed favorable press in the Vic Ad and so on. The "Underwear bandit" ad may have left out a lot of facts but it served it's purpose well.
"A prosecutor, not a politician" I think not. Tyler is a superb politician who happens to also be a prosecutor.
November 3, 2010 at 7:10 p.m. -
Speak Up 1968...for not being a Steve Tyler fan ....you sure notice much about him and his camp! Are you sure your really not a fan? All that energy you spend. I think we have you converted!! I am a republican by the way and voted for a demo in the county judge race. So your theory of Steve winning because of demo's is nuts! He win...you lost!! Get over it!!
KCI..you could not have said it better about Tyler's victory and not spending a dime with the advocate. Makes the campaign even sweetier!
November 3, 2010 at 6:47 p.m. -
speakup68...you are very good at twisting facts. If Deborah Branch had won, you would have been crowing from the rooftops about how many people voted FOR her. But since Tyler won, all you can come up with is that the people voted AGAINST Democrats?
Too too funny...and rather pathetic.Get over it...Tyler won. Fair and square. Take your medicine.
November 3, 2010 at 4:29 p.m. -
Hahaha nunofmybeeswax. I voted for Tyler proudly. And now, reading your post..I'd vote the same way five times over to never be considered a part of anything you are. You sound like a child and my guess is you belong in jail with your family.
November 3, 2010 at 4:08 p.m. -
Why did Tyler state at the LWV forum that he spent only $2000 trying to hang the chief of police when it is rumored be be more like $300,000 of taxpayer money? Vic Ad NEEDS TO ASK FOR OPEN RECORDS ON THAT! When are the false charges set to go to trial for Officer Buentello and Attorney Smit? What happened to their right to speedy trials? How long is Tyler going to drag his feet AND refuse to have certain if not all documents of that case openned which he claims the defendants don't want openned? That is farther from the truth! The 10321 people that cast their vote for Tyler need to know the TRUTH. Hopefully 1322 of them will be terribly ashamed they didn't do their homework and get the FACTS on Ms. Branch when they learn the truth. Grand Jury next week... why wasn't it held prior to the election? Tyler was so busy handing out hot check money to the comissioners, CLAIMING THE GLORY for the awesome LE round up of HPL Gang members, (which BTW, ALL credit goes to Law Enforcement, NOT Tyler) kissing babies and taking ever photo opt and television inteview possible prior to this election. Not a politician? ha! That would be a joke if it wasn't so truly pathetic and sad.
November 3, 2010 at 3:44 p.m. -
Congratulations Steve!!
November 3, 2010 at 3:01 p.m. -
Well hell another four years of duhhhh I came prepared for this case. Another four years of my tax dollar going out the window. Just remember Mr. Tyler 47% of Victoria wanted you out and oh yes we will be constantly reminding you in editorials (if they are printed) on how bad you are Still doing. Maybe this time you will spend more time in the court rooms in all the cases not just the ones that bring you to the lime lights.
November 3, 2010 at 2:18 p.m. -
Note to Advocate: Police and Courts is full of arrests. Do any of these people ever go to trial? There was alot of talk between the DA candidates about who dropped cases and how many. Anyone know what happens in the court room?
November 3, 2010 at 2:18 p.m. -
Well with Tyler being re-elected at least we can rest assured, that for the next four years, there will be plenty to talk about around the water cooler and coffee pot. One thing it won't be is dull.
November 3, 2010 at 1:45 p.m. -
What a surprise. Steve Tyler actually pulled it off. I expected Victoria to send him packing after the crap he's pulled, but such is not the case. Please tell me it had nothing to do with those awful commercials he had on the radio. Does Russell fancy himself as a 1920's newsreel voice man?
Steve, if you're reading this, please try not to waste anymore of my money on personal vendettas and salaries of employees with questionable ethics or persons under investigation for kid touching. K? That would be swell. Thanks.
Couple of other things...
Marilynholmes-A grand jury indictment does not mean the person(s) is guilty of any wrong doing, it merely means that there is sufficient evidence to level charges.
Justataxpayer- Every newspaper openly supports their candidate of choice. There's nothing wrong with that.
November 3, 2010 at 11:43 a.m. -
brkt99 there's more to Victoria than dope slinging thugs! what is dope slinging?
November 3, 2010 at 11:12 a.m. -
Congratulations! Justice at least this time prevailed. I still say if a GRAND JURY indicted those city officials they did something wrong and the citizens never got to find out what corruption was going on from the officers to the judges.
November 3, 2010 at 10:45 a.m. -
I don't think he would have won had it not been for the Obama haters who for vengence sake voted straight Republican. For this same reason, Perry is still governor and Wayne Dierlam lost the Precinct 4 Commissioner position. The voters have spoken, however, even if their voice was ill informed or ill considered.
November 3, 2010 at 10:39 a.m. -
to darkhorse :
What is it that "he has done behind closed doors"? Please educate us.
November 3, 2010 at 9:47 a.m. -
I find it interesting that people seem to rejoice over the Steven Tyler win. Yay! Let's praise the man who goes after police officers just because he has some type of personal vendetta. Let's celebrate the fact that more of our tax dollars will be wasted. Let's be happy the man who played on people's ignorance is back in office. When Steven Tyler was asked on a scale of 1-10 what is his working relationship like with police officers Tyler actually had the nerve to say a 9. 9 Really?? That's interesting and far from the truth. Well Victoria you wanted the Guard Dog that bites........its just too bad he bites the wrong people.
November 3, 2010 at 9:17 a.m. -
Okay!!!!!the election is over, now will all the canidates PLEASE remove all the signs that have been posted all over Victoria.
November 3, 2010 at 8:47 a.m. -
I'm not surprised that Tyler was elected again. The majority of Victoria citizens are not privy to what he has done behind closed doors....ignorance has played a winning hand. It is quite unfortunate...Branch is a dedicated and intelligent woman. I think she would have been a good change and would have really surprised people. She was a very good assistant district attorney at one time.
November 3, 2010 at 8:09 a.m. -
Congratulations, Mr. Tyler, on a hard-fought race. Your detractors will continue to criticize, but remember...the majority of voters wanted YOU to serve to be their District Attorney. It does not matter what the margin of victory was...they wanted YOU.
What makes this victory extra special is that you did it without buying a single ad in the Victoria Advocate.
Now...go out there , and continue to get the job done.
November 3, 2010 at 7:53 a.m. -
Congratulations Steve , now we won't have someone in office that will go along with the good ole boy system that they were so use to....times a changin.
November 3, 2010 at 7:15 a.m. -
Brkt99 and Zero....Give me a break the man won and had over 10,000 votes. So its clear that many people voted for Steve Tyler. Let it rest....he's back for $ more years. Thank goodness! And to you Zero who claims he bought himself...give me a freaking break! She had the newspaper and these twisted stories backing her! That seems unfair to me and also shows Victoria and its voters can't be bought! I am dying to see what kind of advocate story drama we will have now!Way to go Steve Tyler....Happy to see all of your supporters! Steve Tyler Rocks!!!
November 3, 2010 at 6:49 a.m. -
Wait... so it's not the guy from Aerosmith? I feel so misinformed.
November 3, 2010 at 5:46 a.m. -
It's natural for the Tyler haters to scream right now. Just a reaction to LOSING!!!! hahahahahahahah!
November 3, 2010 at 5:20 a.m. -
branch ran a very good race.
congrats to tyler.
November 3, 2010 at 1:18 a.m. -
Congratulations!
November 3, 2010 at 1:09 a.m. -
Well, we still have DA Tyler to kick around some more.
His comment that, "In the end, I got the endorsements that mattered most, the endorsements of the people here in Victoria" is sadly off the mark. 52% of the vote doesn't seem like a clear endorsement in view of the overwhelming republican vote in the county. More to the point, given his reward -- almost three quarters of a million dollar salary (2010 dollars over four years), his huge loans to his campaign seem quite reasonable. Just judging by campaign signs, newspaper, tv and radio announcements, Branch simply never had a chance to compete with the financial advantages Tyler bought himself. His family will do well for the next four years. I hope that Tyler can reign in his catestrophic law practice and concentrate on getting criminals off the street in the future and working with all civil authority in the county.
November 2, 2010 at 11:54 p.m. -
Every dope slinging thug in Victoria is rejoicing tonight.
