• Way to go EAST! That was an awesome game lastnight! Lots of fun and great team spirit!

  • Tking...... We’re still ______ ___ you.
'Bring Your Boots' campaign will only cost the tax payers more money to fund. What needed entities/projects will the city have to ignore in order to feed this marketing campaign? I wonder how long it will take to see if this investment will pay off.
East Titans.......... WAY TO GO district champs! Everyone is very proud of the work and effort you kids are putting into team spirit.

  • Stick with the sword. The sword was a great idea. The boot is a dumb idea. The boot has nothing to do with VISD or either school for that matter. I'm confused as to why that would even be an idea in the first place?

    November 8, 2010 at 8:23 a.m.
  • Actually the kids were making fun of it... lol because they knew that the sword was at the school waiting for them.

  • "Brown noser" Really? I have no reason to kiss anyone's butt. I'm not saying it's the greatest thing in the world, I just can't believe how many people are crying over this. Not representative of Victoria? This is south Texas. Do you not believe farming and ranching are big industries in the region. They may not be Cowboy boots but I and a large number of other people in the area work in the petrochemical industry and we put on our work boots everyday. I don't know what macaroni has to do with Victoria but I had a good time when they had the macoroni fest a few years ago. I'm just glad they are trying to get something going be it a boot or whatever. Please share some of your wonderful ideas or do you not have any and just want to cry about others ideas.

"You get the Boot" That is the funniest...........
Who honestly thinks that this "Boot" campaign is a good one? It has no representation of Victoria, its industry, or public schools. What a slap in the face to those awarded; it's a joke really.

REALLY!!!!....... You are the quintessencial 'brown noser'!!!!

    November 7, 2010 at 9:20 a.m.
  • Er, just noticed my spelling, steal the spotlight. cb129923, just because people are excited about a football game doesn't mean that they don't care about education. I think tickets are $5, it's not like people are spending their entire paychecks on the game. The city is energized, it's a great thing. All three high school teams in Victoria are in the playoffs when is the last time that happened. Sit back, enjoy, feed off the excitement and build from this.

    November 6, 2010 at 3:56 p.m.
  • Well the kids seemed to be just fine. Saw several pictures and videos of the players proudly holding up the boot, guess it's not the end of the world after all. The Astros and Rangers have been playing for a boot since the start of interleague play and nobody cries that it's too hick. Chamber of Commerce trying to still the spotlight??? Get real, most of the attention is coming from the people crying about it.

    November 6, 2010 at 2:40 p.m.
  • Sorry I meant Childish.

    November 6, 2010 at 8:09 a.m.
  • Thank you Chamber of Commerce! I think it is great that everyone is so excited about the new schools and that both the booster club and the chamber wanted to do something for the game.

I hate that some people are being so childless :-(

    November 6, 2010 at 8:07 a.m.
  • Seriously?? Can our community scream HICK any louder than this? It's pretty sad when I try to do business in Houston and they are bombarded with reminders - both billboard and radio ads - that we're just a bunch of freaking hicks.

    F F S!!!

    November 5, 2010 at 9:29 p.m.
  • I didn't skim the article deep enough. D=

    November 5, 2010 at 7:47 p.m.
  • Rebecca...the booster club already purchased a sword trophy for the game....

    November 5, 2010 at 7:41 p.m.
  • Really? A boot?

    November 5, 2010 at 7:06 p.m.
  • Now, if the city decides to give an award, they get to choose what it will look like, right? Sounds like the city wants to start a tradition with the winner of the two schools. That's not stopping the two schools from starting a tradition of their own. The city gives a boot, but we need to have a VICTORIA VICTORY SWORD too! We can pass that sword back and forth like some people pass around a fruit cake at Christmas.

    November 5, 2010 at 6:40 p.m.
  • er... I wouldn't really do that. It was the image that popped in my head when I glanced over the comments. Kinda like I imagine an ape punching an angel when people argue creation science. =P

** I think it would be cool to have a victory sword that gets passed to the winner each time our two schools play! That would be a unifying tradition! **

I'll go pick one up at the renfest, if you would like. ;) ;) ;)

    November 5, 2010 at 6:39 p.m.
  • Give the boot the boot... how silly! A sword makes much more sense. What were you thinking Randy Vivian? This Victoria "Boot Campaign" is STUPID and an A$$ine waste of money! Yes, Rebecca, stick that sword thru the boot or better yet, plant a pot plant in it for Moore's desk top! Hicktoria, yooooou crack me up!Wait till tonight's winner REFUSES to accept the boot. Lol lol lol lol lol! BTW, how much did that ugly "trophy" cost? You were robbed! lol lol lol ! It'd made more sense to make a bronzed cleted football shoe taken from the winning team's quarterback welded to the trophy! lol lol lol ! Chamber visionaries, you actually "need the BOOT"!

    November 5, 2010 at 6:21 p.m.
  • Yes, both schools have a sword as part of their logo. But the idea of the boot was from the chamber of commerce and a Victoria theme, not a school theme. Victoria should be happy that they have two schools that were built and created as equals and that the city and chamber are being so supportive of them. I say give a dirty old boot to all the gripers and whiners !!

  • Why not forget football and teach them how to read first. Perhaps even get the 2 schools to pass the fundamental tests. Just to let everyone know, this rivalry was created in order to drain more money from your pocketbooks. You guys are getting so excited to spend money on your tickets, when is the last time you got this excited about getting your kids a tutor.

    November 5, 2010 at 2:40 p.m.
  • I am proud of the young adults at both schools. I can't say the same for some of the children posting comments.

    November 5, 2010 at 2:37 p.m.
  • Booing at the boot is childish and not something we should be teaching our kids. Maybe if the parents started acting like "grown ups" and showing some respect, we could expect the same from our kids. GO WARRIORS!

    November 5, 2010 at 1:29 p.m.
  • Sounds like it would please everyone if the trophy was of a boot with a sword stabbed through it. =P

    November 5, 2010 at 12:35 p.m.
  • The problem is ..... that it IS the thought that counts. Bad call Chamber.

    November 5, 2010 at 12:21 p.m.
  • Thank you Chamber, I appreciate the free gift, thoughts for the schools and players, and showing your Victoria pride by offering a trophy that will hopefully represent hard work and sportsmanship and bring more pride to Victoria.

    November 5, 2010 at 12:15 p.m.
  • What!!!! A Boot!!!! Give me a break Chamber!!!! They need some new employees at the Chamber - blind leading the blind over there!!!! Go East Titans!!!!!!! We don't need your boot!!! You know where you can put that boot!!! Go TITANS!!!! ALL THE WAY.........TITANS.......

    November 5, 2010 at 12:14 p.m.

    November 5, 2010 at 12:07 p.m.
  • TitanParent2012,
What in the world dose the chambers "bring your boots" agenda have to do with local H.S. football? Please the chamber is trying to get a little free advertising for a failing champaign that no one in Victoria is behind....Maybe the chamber would have gotten a little more respect if they had asked the football players what they wanted.

    November 5, 2010 at 11:54 a.m.
  • Speaking of watching the players... I wonder how many East players will get penalized for showboating after a big play...

    November 5, 2010 at 11:53 a.m.
  • I think the Chamber and the booster clubs should all be commended for thinking of our students and their accomplishments. The booster clubs have come up with what they feel is a symbolic award for the winner as the Chamber has; why not keep in the theme? The school’s boosters have pointed out that swords are a symbol for both teams and the Chamber has the boots theme. I think this community has so much to offer, but will never shine till EVERYONE works together as a team! Maybe we should take example from the very players of the two teams we will be watching tonight!!!!

    November 5, 2010 at 11:43 a.m.
  • Why is everyone so upset about the boot?I think it is a great idea. It is definantely unique. Face it, you can not please everyone and most likely can not please anyone with whatever it done. I think it was something for the Chamber to do this. Those of you that remember the old Raider/Sting rivalry, do you remember the chamber and basically the whole town getting so excited about the game? The answer is no - most people could have cared less unless they had someone playing. Face it - one team has to lose tonight and one team will win. Lets just hope both can hang their head high and be proud of their part in the game, or being a spectator or just a supporter of one team or another.

    November 5, 2010 at 11:33 a.m.
  • I HAVE FOUND IT!!!! This is where they got the boot! Fits Victoria perfectly....

    November 5, 2010 at 11:23 a.m.
  • As it turns out the Booster President should have been more respectful of the Chamber's wishes.

From what I am hearing the sword will be presented at the banquet for East. It will be kept as an 'internal' trophy to reside in East's Trophy case (win or lose).

Boo-ing the boot is not the answer. Respect what the athletes have accomplished: District winner and playoff bid (w/ a Beeville loss)... Well done Titans and Warriors -

    Support our community -

    November 5, 2010 at 11:05 a.m.
  • I understand that you all think the boot trophy is a dumb idea, but has anyone really given much thought to the sword idea?

The Sword Fight! Next thing you know the booster will have a sausage cook off called, "Sausage Fest". Why not have a bronze jockstrap for the trophy?

Beastside, Eastside...lame, sounds like we are uneducated!! Beast from the East...much better. It's not the Eastside High School, it's Victoria East.

With that being said, East is going to stomp West!!!!

    November 5, 2010 at 11:03 a.m.
  • If the mascots were the Cowboys and the Rustlers a boot would be a logical trophy. But a boot for the winner of the Titans/Warriors City Championship game?!? Come on Victoria and VISD, for ONCE do something that make sense. But if there was any common sense in this town we would be discussing the Raiders/Stingaree City Championship game.

  • The boot trophy is stupid - just like the boot campaign. It does not make any sense. The battle of the sword is appropriate since both schools have it in their logos.

Give the boot and the chamber the boot! Idiots.

    November 5, 2010 at 9:38 a.m.
  • Somewhere there is one p***ed off elderly cowboy who woke up hungover and missing a boot. Damn you VCC!

    November 5, 2010 at 9:32 a.m.
  • That is so stupid. The Boot will not be around after Friday night.

    November 5, 2010 at 9:10 a.m.
  • They should give the winner the Sword and the looser the Boot!

    November 5, 2010 at 8:54 a.m.
  • That boot looks like it is from 1960's San Francisco. Slug trails and all on the top part.

    November 5, 2010 at 8:48 a.m.
  • I would be trying to lose on purpose just so I would not have it in my school....

    November 5, 2010 at 8:42 a.m.
  • Where did the "Boot" idea come from? Maybe the "Bring your boots to Victoria" project. I like the sword idea better.

    November 5, 2010 at 6:42 a.m.
  • both sides should together pick a time and "BOO THE BOOT".
I hope both sides boo it!! Lets not commericalize the game.

VISD had really being doing good and both sides want the sword. We even bought thier shirts. Then this comes out. We agree with you Mr. Wallace. Shame shame shame
