The Food Bank of the Golden Crescent is continuing programs to help ease the hurt of hunger in the area.
And it's getting help, too.
The city of Victoria recently awarded the Food Bank a $10,000 grant to assist with a program, in conjunction with the Victoria school district and Kidz Connection, to identify homeless children living at or below the poverty level who are in need of assistance.
Up to 100 children are being helped with supplemental food through the Food Bank's backpack program, according to a news release from the Food Bank.
In addition to the ongoing backpack program, the Food Bank recently completed its federally-funded Summer Family Nutrition Program.
From mid-June through the end of September, the Food Bank assisted 6,579 families in an 11-county area. Food was distributed once a month for four months.
A total of 641,207 pounds of food was distributed, including produce, canned goods, and packaged goods, according to a news release from the Food Bank.
Some donated products were also included, which were, for the most part, beverages.
