THUMBS-UP

Thumbs-up to the Victoria Public Library, staff and Friends of the Library for promoting genealogy. The Friday genealogy classes and the once a month classes on Tuesday are wonderful. The seminars have been good too. Thank you!

Doris, Victoria

THUMBS-DOWN

Thumbs-down to pet owners who let their pets roam the neighborhood destroying property and leaving their calling cards in yards other than their owners'.

This is a major thumbs-down to whoever is in charge of agreeing on construction of roads in town. Construction started on Sam Houston, and that is one of the busiest highly trafficked roads in the morning and after school lets out. This couldn't have waited till summer to start construction? Really, I understand potholes are horrible on this road, but how long have we gone without fixing the entire street and they want to start now? Come on, people, timing is horrible. Let's see how many people are going to agree with this! Traffic already gets backed up, and this just made it worse. I would rather home school my kids than have to deal with these traffic problems.

Thumbs-up to the Trinity Episcopal Church volunteers in cleaning up the Greenbriar neighborhood in taking part in Keep Victoria Beautiful's "Clean Sweep" program.

Thumbs-up to the Zoo's member-only Owl Prowl, where Zoo members learned about owl anatomy and folk lore, dissected an owl pellet, learned some owl calls and then practiced those owl calls in the park after dark.

Thumbs-up to the Crossroads American Cross Chapter for its work on the Veterans History Project, interviewing veterans about their experience during the war they were involved in.

THUMBS-DOWN

Thumbs-down to the lack of rain. The conditions are so dry, we will have to go back to a burn ban soon if we don't get some rain.
