Fasting at least eight hours before testing is recommended for accurate results.
Constantly being on the go can be tough on life, family and health.
Citizens Medical Center's HealthWISE hopes to change that busy mind set with its diabetes drive-thru Wednesday at Citizens Healthplex.
The mission of the drive-thru is to bring awareness to the disease through free screenings while the person is still in their car, said Shawna Mitchell, HealthWise director.
"We get a range of people coming in," she said.
The disease affects about 23.6 million people in the United States, according to the American Diabetes Association.
The drive-thru, which is in its second year, was also held last week at the Citizens parking lot.
This year, Mitchell has also added the Healthplex into the mix to reach more people, she said.
The 2009 drive-thru tested 85 people in a four-hour period and last week's drive-thru tested 25 people, Mitchell said.
Weather may have played a role in the down number, she added.
"People go through the registration, get their blood sugar checked and an information packet," she said.
Mitchell hopes to surpass last year's numbers, she said.
"It's pretty big," she said about diabetes' prevalence in the Crossroads. "A lot of it has to do with the culture."
