Boots for Bucks. Last month I told everyone to get an old boot and decorate it any way you wanted and enter it in our boots for bucks contest.
We have two divisions, youth and adult, and the winner from each division will win $100.
The deadline to enter was Nov. 6. The boots are in, and there are plenty of creative ones to choose from.
Best of show from each division will be chosen by People's Choice voting. The entries will be displayed at the Victoria Art League's Gallery during the month of November for public viewing and voting. Visitors to the gallery can vote for one youth and one adult entry each time they visit the art league.
Winners will be announced at our Holiday Market Day, at 2 p.m. Dec. 4
Call and ask about our Holiday Market Day. It goes from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and booths are still available for $15 or $20 to sell your items or creations for Christmas shoppers. For information about either or both of the activities, e-mail at email@example.com, or call 361-575-3216, or the Art League 361-572-0825 from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
The Art League enjoyed a demonstration of Sumi-e by Saundra Schultz at our last meeting and we are looking forward to hearing a former Victorian, Vincent Martinez, at our monthly meeting.
Vincent won the Houston Live Stock Show art competition while at Victoria High School, auctioning off his painting for $16,000 and has gone on to expand on his rap-style singing career as well as his art in Austin.
He will demonstrate both at our meeting. The public is invited to attend this informative and exciting meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Art League, 905 S. Bridge St.
The Art League was asked to paint an ornament for the state Christmas tree to represent Rep. Geanie Morrison. Paula Kainer graciously painted the glass ornament, and it's nice to know that Victoria will be represented on that tremendous tree at the state capital in Austin.
We are presently getting the windows replaced and the roof redone on the third floor by Jack Gilbert Construction. This will accomplish phase one of our campaign to repair our historical building, but there is a lot more that needs to be done. Thanks to the O'Connor and Hewitt Foundation, the Trull Foundation, the York Foundation, the Crossroads Foundation, and Wells Fargo as well as individuals who have contributed to the building fund to accomplish this.
Classes continue to be taught at the art league, so call or come by to get more information.
