Shooting in intersection
One man was injured following a shooting near the intersection of Laurent and Juan Linn streets on Wednesday.
Around 11:30 a.m., John Lopez, 20, the driver of a white Chevrolet Trailblazer, stopped his vehicle in the center turn lane on Laurent Street after spotting a blue four-door car.
Lopez exited the Trailblazer and began a fist fight in the street with the man who was driving the blue car, said Victoria Police Chief Bruce Ure.
At some point, Gavino Maldonado Jr., 25, a passenger in the Trailblazer, pulled a gun.
The driver of the blue car was shot in the shoulder.
Ure said the two men who were fighting had a "running disagreement."
Instead of waiting for an ambulance, the man who was shot, whose name was unknown, drove himself to Citizens Medical Center.
He had non-life-threatening injuries, said Ure.
Meanwhile, the men in the Trailblazer took off, only to get caught by law enforcement officers on the entry ramp to U.S. Highway 59 North near the park and ride area a short time later.
Lopez was charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, while Maldonado was charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana.
Both Lopez and Maldonado are Victoria residents.
