It's the time of year when a lot of artists release Christmas albums. Mariah Carey has a new one, the "Glee" Christmas album is out this week, but if you're not ready for the holidays, there are still some big "non-holiday" releases this month.

Rihanna's new LP "Loud," featuring the singles "Only Girl In The World" and "What's My Name," featuring Drake, is out this week. It's her fifth studio album and the most personal. Every song was tailored to Rihanna. In a recent interview, Rihanna said "I wanted songs that were all Rihanna songs, that nobody else could do. I didn't want the generic pop record that Ke$ha or Lady Gaga or Katy Perry could just do and it'll work. I wanted a song, or songs, that were Rihanna songs, that only I could do, had that little West Indian vibe to it, had that certain tone, a certain sass and a certain energy."

Nicki Minaj appears on the track "Raining Men" and Eminem and Ree team up again for "Love The Way You Lie (Part II). I'm waiting for a collaboration with Katy Perry. The rumor is they are in talks to record a duet together after becoming close friends at Katy Perry's bachelorette party. If it happens, it should be a fun record.

Kanye West canceled an upcoming appearance on the "Today" show because he didn't like how Matt Lauer and the show treated him during an interview last week. During a chat with Lauer, West was shown footage of former President George W. Bush expressing how upset he was when West said he didn't care about black people in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. A clip of West interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards show in 2009 was also played during the interview. West pulled out of a planned post-Thanksgiving appearance on "Today" because of the way producers brought the topics up in the interview.

Jay-Z has unveiled a new website as a promotional push for his upcoming greatest hits album, "The Hits Collection," which drops next week. The Flash-based site opens with scenic black-and-white photos of New York landmarks. Each section of the site chronicles different periods of Jay-Z's career.

Mariah Carey will join President and Mrs. Obama in getting an early start celebrating Christmas. Carey will perform at the annual "Christmas in Washington" special on TNT. Miranda Cosgrove, Annie Lennox, Maxwell and Matthew Morrison from "Glee" will also perform. Ellen DeGeneres will host the special that airs on Dec. 17.

Joe Friar is the Program Director at radio station 95 KVIC and the host of the Breakfast Buzz morning show. Weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m. on 95.1 FM in Victoria.
