The lighted American flag display, that was destroyed by vandalism last year, has returned to Cuero's Christmas in the Park this year, and opens Monday.

Favorite scenes are back and additional ones have been added as the 11th annual Cuero Christmas in the Park opens Monday at Cuero Municipal Park.

The popular U.S. flag and paddlewheel exhibits are back on the lake, said Mary Polansky, publicity chair for the December Events Committee that sets up and runs the display.

With the addition of new scenes, more than 120 holiday displays now adorn the park during the holiday display.

New scenes include a lighthouse on the lake pier, the penguin family with igloo, doves, butterfly and soaring eagle with a deer family.

Old favorites including the Nativity, cross on the lake, Sassy the sea serpent, 12 Days of Christmas and others also return.

"There is no fee to enter the park. Donations are accepted at Santa's House near the end of the self-guided tour," said Polansky. "These donations help us continue to grow. All work is volunteer, so we thank the public for its generosity."

Thursdays in December, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., are free hot chocolate nights. The live Nativity is scheduled for Dec. 13-22 at 7 p.m. each night.

The December Events Committee is a committee of the Cuero Development Corporation.
