Music/art events abound at Cuero Courtyard Gallery this month
December is going to be a busy month for the Courtyard Gallery in Cuero. The venue has art and music events lined up throughout the month.
Through Dec. 2: The art exhibit featuring the work of Victoria artist Neldene Matusevich will remain up at the galley through Dec. 2. An award-winning oil and pastel artist, Matusevich is also a noted art teacher in the area, according to a news release. She is known for her landscapes, still lifes and figurative works.
Dec. 4: An artist reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. for Jill Pankey, of San Marcos, who is the featured December artist for the gallery. A lecturer at Texas State University, Pankey was awarded the 2010 University Alumni's Star Award, according to a news release. She has also received numerous awards from state and local art organizations, including the Manhattan Arts International Gallery. In her artist's statement on her website, Pankey says:
"My paintings are exploring the notion of a celebration or ritual event honoring the female form. Since commercial society targets youth and achievement, the aging female still takes a back seat on many levels (films, jobs, the arts, body image, etc.). In past years, middle-aged women were focused on raising families, were often sedentary, gray haired and had difficulty in entering the professional world. Today, our icons are women who have made tremendous gains in all areas of society with the exception of body image."
The reception is free, open to the public and will feature music by Terry Johnson, of Austin.
Dec. 18: Get in the Christmas spirit with the "Third Saturday in Cuero" Acoustic Jam and Christmas Carol Sidewalk Serenade from 4 to 8 p.m. Musicians and music lovers alike are invited to spend some time enjoying traditional Christmas favorites and adding some holiday art or messages to the gallery sidewalk. Chalk is provided.
