2010 holiday ornament contest winners announced
Victoria is in the Christmas spirit this year. The annual Cultural Council of Victoria's Holiday Ornament Contest received more than 70 entries this year - double the entries from last year, executive director Joe Baugh said.
Judging took place on Nov. 18 and winners were announced this week.
The winners of the contest are as follows:
Adult Division: First place, Tina Ramirez, Second place, Carmen Fitzgerald
Senior High Division: First place, Julia Pullin, St. Joseph High School, Second place, Noe Botello, Victoria East High School
Junior High Division: First place, Jared Kocian, Howell Middle School, Second place, Menhal Sheikh, Howell Middle School
This is the second time Ramirez, of Victoria, has won first place in the contest. She also won two years ago with her gingerbread house creation, she said.
"I do a lot of crafts. I love doing them. Making this ornament was tedious work, trying to get all the tiny beads on there, and very time consuming, but I love to do it," Ramirez, 67, said. "I'm a senior citizen but I still stay active doing crafts."
The ornaments will be hung on the Christmas tree in the Leo J. Welder lobby through December 20.
