The deadline to apply for the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program for grazing and hay crops is Dec. 1.
Through the insurance program, producers receive financial assistance for noninsurable crops when they experience low yields, loss of inventory or prevented planning due to natural disasters.
Noninsurable crops must have program coverage in order for producers to remain eligible for the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments Program, Tree Assistance Program and the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honey Bees and Farm-raised Fish Program.
If coverage is purchased for grazing or hay, producers must also certify their acres with the Farm Service Agency by Dec. 15.
Eligible natural disasters include damaging weather such as drought, excessive moisture, wind or hurricanes, natural occurrences such as earthquakes and floods and other similar conditions, including excessive heat, disease and insect infestation. The natural disaster must take place before or during the harvest and must directly affect the eligible crop.
The program service fee is $250 per crop or $750 per producer per administrative county, whichever fee is lesser. Fees are not to exceed $1,875 for producers who farm in multiple counties.
Limited resource producers may request to have service fees waived.
