Help United Way help many more in need
Editor the Advocate:
Dear Victoria County community: As representatives of Victoria County United Way's 19 partner agencies, please accept our thanks for your past support of the United Way. Your generosity created extraordinary opportunities that allowed us to help people lead more productive, self-sufficient lives.
In Victoria, we stand up for our community. We work together to lend a hand, ignite hope, we bring out the best in ourselves and celebrate the best in others. We thrive on good ideas, hard work and inspired visions. Your help is needed again. Through the United Way, we can do more together than we can individually. Please take a moment and give; when we all participate, we all benefit. We are stronger, our communities are stronger and Victoria County is more robust and resilient because of your caring.
It is no surprise that neighbors and friends are struggling during these difficult economic times. Whether because of a layoff and loss of income, domestic or social issues, families continue to come to us for help. As United Way agencies, we are there to provide help because of the generosity of this community - a community that has always stepped up to care for those most in need.
Funds raised here stay here, and decisions about how funds will be distributed are made by dedicated volunteers who live and work in Victoria County. The United Way works to find solutions by addressing problems at their root cause. Each year, volunteers visit our agencies to review program goals and budgets to make sure that they are making a difference in our community and that the funds entrusted to United Way are making the greatest impact. Agency programs are scrutinized to ensure they are addressing documented needs without duplicating services.
United Way's reach is far: Through our programs and services, we are serving thousands of individuals - in Victoria County from Bloomington to Inez to Cleveland to Guadalupe to Victoria and everywhere in between.
At the time of this writing, the campaign is at 51 percent of goal. We are more than half way to our community goal of $822,000. Please give to the United Way and be part of helping our community to reach its 2010 goal.
There are many ways to give. If your company has a United Way campaign, you can give through payroll deduction. You can call the United Way at 361-578-3561, or stop in at the office at 4407 Lilac, Victoria, 77901. You can also give online with a debit or credit card by visiting the United Way website at www.unitedwayvictoria.org.
Thank you for helping us meet the needs of our neighbors.
Clifford Grimes, Victoria County United Way executive director, Victoria
