Billy Wiggins has been named the lone finalist for Calhoun school district superintendent.
The Calhoun school board has been searching for a replacement since former superintendent Larry Nichols left to become superintendent of Galveston school district earlier this year.
Personnel director Jim Story has served as interim superintendent since Nichols' departure.
The school board interviewed six of the 18 applicants for the position before selecting Wiggins.
Wiggins has more than 30 years experience in the education field, and 10 years experience as a superintendent.
Wiggins is superintendent of the Salado school district, near Temple. He was superintendent at Port Aransas from 2003 to 2008.
After the state's mandatory 21-day waiting period, Wiggins will likely be offered the job in mid-December. He could start work in January, Story said.
