Victoria airman graduates from basic training

U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Frank Dirr, a Victoria native, is a crew chief with the 442nd Air Expeditionary Advisory Squadron. Dirr is shown conducting pre-flight checks on the AKM (7.62mm assault rifle) on board the MI-17 helicopter. On Sept. 22. Afghan and American pilots flew two MI-17 helicopters on a routine troop movement mission to several forward operating bases throughout the southern part of Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Air Force Airman Marisa I. Hungerford graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Hungerford is the daughter of Sandra Hungerford of Victoria and granddaughter of Irene Flowers of Clyde. She is a 2010 graduate of Memorial High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Dakota R. McCarthy has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK.

McCarthy is the son of Marc and Renee McCarthy of Victoria. He is a 2008 graduate of Calhoun High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Anthony O. Steen has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA.

Steen is the son of Larry Steen of Victoria. He is a 2002 graduate of Memorial High School.
