  • @ Tstorm I am not being a jerk! You should read some of the past comments made by these individuals, I just want to hear what they got to say about the game. And maybe you haven't had much interaction with the crab nation but I can tell you they are a pretty obnoxious bunch. From little league to the high school you have to deal with a overbearing parents and boosters.

  • I think what sets the Titans apart when I look over the films is the way they don't give up on plays. From the first game to the last you see players running backwards on plays that could easily have been broken plays and making that second or third block against the flow of traffic. Those are always some of the biggest hits in the game.

    October 10, 2010 at 11:14 p.m.
  • Cobraden Go find another sucker to listen to you, cause East competed with three 5A schools this season and schooled all of them.

    October 10, 2010 at 11:09 p.m.
  • Crab101 lol Your seeing the "worse" part of the Titan D (supposedly) If you spread the Titan D your only playing into their strength. These boys will pick off passes from the sky before they start arching toward the ground. those slow little receivers couldn't have kept up with the 6+ft tall very fast Titan secondary. Calallen figured that out and used their speed against them with that Wing T Triple option offense, But like I said... A good Defense coaches and athletes will only get stung like that once.

    Just Sayin... LOL

    October 10, 2010 at 10:56 p.m.
  • eh, I'm over this game. East took care of business as I expected.

Now it's time for East-Beeville, and West-Floresville. I think both will be victorious!

    October 10, 2010 at 10:44 p.m.
  • Thanks Titans for playing hard. Just like NFL QB Kevin Kolb on Monday night football with the Philadelphia Eagles, also a Victoria boy.

    Go Titans....

    October 10, 2010 at 8:41 p.m.
  • Well said, pilot!

    October 10, 2010 at 8:05 p.m.
  • cobraden: Aren't we all about the $$$ ? If I'm ever hiring, I'll be sure to let you know. I know I could low ball you and you'd take the first offer given. You know, because you aren't about the $$$. Seriously, I've been a critic of Findley and some of his decisions. Even now, I scratch my head at some of his desicions. The penalties are unexcusable and are a result form lack of disclipine. Which is taught by the coaches. After one play, the line backer went 20 yards out of his way to argue a call with a referee. All the while, PLC was about to run a play. If my old coach would see any of us do that, he'd be sure we didn't see the field again. That being said, don't fault the man for wanting more money. It's his right to do so. And you're comment about not playing in a 5A district? No school that has 4A numbers could compete in 5A. Thats why the UIL sets different classifications based on enrollment. Sheesh!

    October 10, 2010 at 7:45 p.m.
  • Finley is all about how many $$$ he can get. He did that in Cuero and will do it in this town. A good/great coach does not leave his current coaching job because the team is losing. Victoria should be happy there are playing 4A ball cuz they couldn't compete in 5A.

    October 10, 2010 at 7:27 p.m.
  • Where o where could waddie 666,Hicktoria, Mexiran, and black and gold forever be? Come on boys come out and play I want to hear the excuses! Fair weather fans!

    October 10, 2010 at 7:15 p.m.
  • Whitaker giving the ball to the titans first really, really confused me.

    October 10, 2010 at 4:05 p.m.
  • But it wasn't.

    October 10, 2010 at 3:51 p.m.
  • While sitting in the upper bleachers during the game it was obvious that the Titans were stacking the line and only sending their linebackers back a few yards. A fake to griffin and sending one of their quicker backs, maybe Cantu down the field a few yards for a pass would have easily resulted in a big gain or probably a touchdown, Then they could have spread the field to make the run more effective. This could have easily been a much closer game.

    October 10, 2010 at 3:47 p.m.
  • nwo the Titans have done a great job shutting down the running game... you not see game??? lol

    October 10, 2010 at 12:21 p.m.
  • Yea those Finley doubters are still out there, theyre just not on here anymore!! hahaha They will never admit they were wrong either Like old Ronald McDonald over there. How Bout those East Coaches!! I give it up to them Making adjustments on the fly and making sure they get executed is not an easy task with a bunch of teenagers, right? GREAT JOB COACHES!! FINLEY PARMA BIVENS EBLIN ARROYO ...AND THE REST OF THE STAFF ON THE START OF A GREAT SEASON!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GENTLEMEN!!

    October 10, 2010 at 12:15 p.m.
  • OneCrabbyLady, I've been here all season. Ask anyone. Where have you been?

Cueroparent, the ones that were crying about firing Finley are the ones that are now crying over drill team drama....in other words, those people will never be happy with anything and will always find a way to complain about something. :)

    October 10, 2010 at 11:07 a.m.
  • From a Titan fan..... HS footbal is a short season, lets enjoy it while it is here. It is a long time till next year...

    Lets Go Titans, Lets Go!!!
    Lets Go Warriors, Lets Go!!!
    Lets Go Sandcrabs Lets Go!!!

    October 10, 2010 at 8:56 a.m.
  • @ Cuero parent I never said we should fire Finley, he seems to have surrounded himself with competent coordinators and the team is looking just fine. I don' t agree with everything in the program but I know East is on track to setting up a successful program @ Crabby lady one of your supporters came on this blog and argued that they would have held Trent Jackson to fewer yards if they were playing on a dry field,That's what I mean by not having a clue! A back who gains 398 yards in a mudpit would have put close to 1,000 on a dry field. Like I said the players I have no problem with, your community is a little different!

    October 10, 2010 at 5:51 a.m.
  • One thing we have to remember, these teams are made up of mere teenagers, kids! We must ask ourselves if our comments and trash talking is going too far. The players read all of this every week! They work hard and give everything out on the field every week.

On another note, where's all the Victoria people wanting to get rid of Finley. Remember he was no good for Victoria and he was all about the money!!! LOL. Now he's winning. I guess he's a good coach now. Let's see what happens when he loses a game or two.

    October 9, 2010 at 11:24 p.m.
  • Great game Titans. I like watching good Texas High School Football. Sandcrabs strategy was to keep running the ball, use up the time clock, thereby keeping the VE Offense off the field. VE offense is capable of scoring a touchdown on EVERY play. Defending against the Sandcrabs running game was simple: one man tackles the fullback, one man tackles the quarterback, and one man tackles the pitchman. The only adjustment that had to be made was two men tackle the fullback instead of one. VE, GP, and Calhoun will be in the playoffs guaranteed. I would like to see VE may play Calallen again.

    October 9, 2010 at 11:11 p.m.
  • ddherring...I don't believe that Coach Whitaker was trying to take anything away from the game that the Titans played against the Crabs...he simply made the statement that we had some of our starters out with injuries and others playing with injuries....and we do. Our coach has never led our players or our community to believe that the outcome of a game would have been different had different factors were in the mix...he will admit and bring to attention the mistakes that were made during that game and that you can count on.

Sorry you have a problem with our car flags...Verizon provided them for the nation...perhaps you can inquire about some for your team? I have to laugh at the remark about the folks in the nation not having a clue...you should spend some time reading some of the blogs and comments of your own fan base...no rocket scientists there either. I have not been witness to any taunts between our school and Victoria schools so I wouldn't know about that...but I do know that after 46 years of coming in on the bottom of the pile...taking all the jokes, jeers, and off the chart scoring games as Calhoun has been subjected to over these years...if they want to brag and hold their heads up and be proud of our community and team then they have every right to do so. I like to think that it will make for a much more exciting district play to have all of the schools making strong team showings...after all you don't want to win if you're from a weak district.

    October 9, 2010 at 9:56 p.m.
  • I also didn't like the comments your coach made about the injuries, he should have just admitted that the Crabs got dominated by a superior team.

    October 9, 2010 at 9:23 p.m.
  • I was wishing you all luck back in 2006 as well, but then your fans starting getting a Calhoun complex. All of a sudden the Crab nation became a collection of braggarts. I enjoyed every minute of the beating you took, not because of the players but so many of your fans don't have a clue. I have witnessed racist taunts at a JV baseball tourney, berating the refs at the basketball games, and not to mention all those annoying black flags you all have on your cars. I say be thankful that you no longer have to face the teams you used to play(El Campo,Rosenberg etc) and learn some humility.

    October 9, 2010 at 9:17 p.m.
  • In reply to ddhearing...I will never forget the 2006 season which was our first winning season in 46 years...how great it was to see all the signs lining the roads through Victoria wishing our team good luck in the playoffs. It was something that the nation has never forgotten. Thanks for snapping us back into reality...I reckon there are some like you still out there.

    October 9, 2010 at 7:46 p.m.
  • Rage there you are! Wondered when you would chime in here. I find it interesting that you can already call who is going to the playoffs and which team is going as Division I and Division II...especially when you were the one who picked Calhoun to beat Victoria earlier this year! It will be fun to see if you are correct this time or not.

The thing I hate the most about Texas High School Football is the way a team is burdened by the weight of defining the community in which they live. Every game is going to have a winner and a loser...and for the latter comes a bevy of "excuses" of why they did not end up victorious. Everything from the weather, to injuries, to rebuilding, and more are cited as valid reasons for the team play. In reality it is just plain "it is what it is." There are always reasons, nothing is ever perfect and the outcome is just the way it is.

As a life-long Sandcrab, I well remember the days of Victoria and Stroman and the whippings we took from those teams every season. Victoria High was especially good at running the scoreboard up to whipping status, so honestly It has been a bit strange not having Victoria to play against, but we have had some tough teams to play during the break...until you have played the teams down south there is not much whomp in the chomp about weak schools and weak districts. Even with all the "excuses" I am still proud of my Sandcrabs and they are still number 1 with the "nation," and I look forward to many more spirit filled games like Memorial stadium was filled with last night.

    October 9, 2010 at 7:21 p.m.
  • Black and gold where are your cowardly buddies? All the trash talk and then have your team lay a egg like that. They were wise not to try and pass the ball, you have no speed whatsoever. I can't believe just how slow and weak of tackling the crabs had. All we hear about is how much these guys benchpress and the offseason program, you didn't get much return on the investment.

  • hey red rage I'm not saying we didn't take a beating..The titans did have a stronger game then we did. The point is I'm not back on the porch licking my wounds... I'm still out here talking smack and I will continue to be here as the season goes on whether we make the playoffs or not. I will acknowledge that the Titans have a good team and wish them luck for the rest of the season. I wish we could have kept the score alittle tighter but thats kool.

    October 9, 2010 at 2:33 p.m.
  • Forever Black and Gold....what did you blog about after the Calallen game? LOL

    Straight from your blog:

"welcome to class 4A football... last night the Titans found out what its like to play with the big boys....."

ROFL! How do you like them apples?

    October 9, 2010 at 1:39 p.m.
  • I think it would have been worse if they did pass, the Titans averaging at least 1 pick six per game. I think the calhoun coach recognized that. also, in th RF game calhoun didnt even attempt a pass (according to the stats) so its not like its a part of their arsenal.

    October 9, 2010 at 1:28 p.m.
  • @ ddherring I'm here and still very proud of my Sandcrabs. It was a tight first half and Calhoun did show that it wasn't going to be an easy win for the Titans. I have no regrets about our boys. They played with alot of heart and just came up short. There is always next year. I do feel that Whittaker should have step up more. Two weeks to prepare for this game and I feel he drop the ball. We should have taken more chances at passing the ball. The idea of using Bargas on both offense and defense was something I would not have done. Bargas is good but I think the coach should have tried to save him and keep him fresh instead of running the risk that a possible injury could occur. I didn't see Whittaker into this game.. it was a disappointment!!

    October 9, 2010 at 11:46 a.m.
  • they tried to pass but without speedy wide receivers it'll be difficult. I hope Joe feels better by next week...good luck crabs! were pulling for yall to beat GP. Honesly their O is suspect but their D is good so work and get that win. Alex You got this man.

    October 9, 2010 at 11:19 a.m.
  • The crab defense has been inconsistent and prone to giving up big yardage all season long. Their secondary is especially weak and anybody with a decent passing offense can rack up big yards. The strength with the crab offense has always been opponents inability to stop the triple option. The triple option alone will not be successful when used against the better teams like the Titans the GP's etc. It should be used in tandem with a passing offense. Bargas seems to have a decent arm and last night I was surprised, whenever being so far behind, they did not resort to passing more. Crabs you gotta pass or you may not even make it into the playoffs

    October 9, 2010 at 10:31 a.m.
  • It has been years since I have experienced an atmosphere like last night's at a Victoria high school football game. That was fun!!! Crab Nation, way to REPRESENT, you guys are Awesome. Those young Crab men played their hearts out. We will be praying for #88, get well kid!!!

Congratulations Titans, one heck of a football game!

    October 9, 2010 at 10:15 a.m.
  • Nah, Calhoun will make the playoffs. I think they'll finish 3rd behind East/GP.....then they get the easy Division 2 route in the playoffs.

All this did was expose Calhoun. You can only beat so many Millers, Moody's, Rockports, Mercedes, and Uvaldes, before losing to a team with talent.

Who would have thought Calhoun would be 3-4 and 0-2 in district after Gregory Portland is done next week?

Anyway, Titans need to fix those penalties.....it'll bite you in the butt against good teams in the playoffs. You can't do that against those top Division 1 teams like Lake Travis, Alamo Heights, Smithson Valley, and Kerrville Tivy....they'll take advantage of it.

    October 9, 2010 at 10:09 a.m.
  • I didn't make it to Beeville, so I went to the East game. Decent game, but way too many penalties. This is no knock aginst Calhoun, but if the Titans play a little more disciplined and cut out some of the silly penalties, then the score is somewhere in the 50's. The Calhoun coach got it right: They are loaded with athletes. I think the West game will be a little closer, but after watching Calhoun play, they are going to struggle to make the playoffs. West will be a really tough match up for them, and GP is going to be extremely difficult to beat. Does Calhoun play in GP? Apparently Beeville is no slouch either. Congrats East.

    October 9, 2010 at 9:17 a.m.
  • Great job East and West. As I stated yesterday, you can't run the triple option against good athletes, and the BEAST side has those. They will dominate Beeville next week also.

    October 9, 2010 at 8:48 a.m.
  • Good game .Titans . and to the Victoria fans. Both teams had the support of their fans and that is what High School football is about. Both teams played good hard football and they never had a give up attitude. You win football games with discipline and good Defense and The Titans produced. Good Job Sandcrabs and to all our coaches, as we have the best and Gregory Portland better be ready next week.

I just hope that our quarterbacks arm heels in time for the next game as Iam sure it was one of those injuries the coach talked about after the game.

    Great game Sandcrabs.

    October 9, 2010 at 8:02 a.m.
  • Where are you crab nation? Hickoria,Mexiran,Waddie666, black and gold forever? come out and play! I thought the vaunted crab offence would roll! That game proves that Calhoun is a product of a weak region 4 schedule, Like I told you before if you were still in Region 3 you would still be looking for your first playoff berth. Get them boys out of the weight room and develope some speed! and your tackling is JV level. I see why Trent Jackson ran all over the crabs. And whats with the poor attitude by your players and then your coach won't man up in the article, he puts the blame on injuries!

    October 9, 2010 at 5:55 a.m.
  • The Titans and Crabs won't meet in the playoffs. The Crabs will get the easier Division 2 bracket. Titans will be Division 1.

Way to go Titans. We heard all week how Griffith was going to run all over the Titans. That didn't happen.

Now just fix those darn penalties...that will kill you in the playoffs against a good team.

    October 9, 2010 at 1:50 a.m.
  • what a great night for crossroads hs football. it was a playoffs type atmosphere out there. both sides filled their half of the stadium, lot of energy in the stands and on the field.

great game titans. you shut down a great running game, titan D really showed up. got to get those penalties under control though.

great game sandcrabs and i tip my hat to sandcrab nation. that is how you support a hs program, filling the stands and cheering from beginning to end.

#88 for calhoun, i hope you can bounce back quickly from your injury.

it'll be fun if these two teams meet up again in the playoffs.

    October 9, 2010 at 1:38 a.m.
  • East IS Beast...just sayin...
