IF YOU GO WHAT: Fall Nygard Fashion Show
WHEN: 2 p.m. Saturday
WHERE: Victoria Mall's Dillard's court, 7802 N. Navarro St.
Dillard's in the Victoria Mall has a passion for fashion, and for breast cancer awareness.
The Fall Nygard Fashion Show, which the store holds each year, helps promote and sell the Nygard fashion line, but this year it's helping raise breast cancer awareness by using breast cancer survivors as models, said Mary Grace Perez, a Dillard's sales manager who is coordinating the event.
The fashion show hits the runway on Saturday.
"It's not much about the sales but trying to be a part of the community," she said.
Madlyn Hilton, 62, can't wait to strut down the runway.
An 11-year breast cancer survivor, Hilton said it is important to stress early detection and show that the disease can be beat, she said.
"I'm excited just to be alive," she said. "Mammograms help really save your life. Women need to know early detection really is the key to beating breast cancer."
Hilton did not have chemotherapy but had a lumpectomy, radiation and was on a pill for the cancer for five years.
The face of cancer has changed a lot, she added.
"We've come a long way. We have so many new medicines and different types of treatments," she said. "It's so much better now."
Nine models will wear two outfits each, Perez said.
At the end of the first set of outfits, a survivor will share her story. Other forms of informative entertainment is also planned, she said.
"I'm assuming there are going to be a great amount of support," said Perez about her expectations. "I think once you beat this disease, you just have a new spirit in life."
