UH Manoa Physics Department honored
HONOLULU (AP) - The University of Hawaii at Manoa says the latest National Research Council ranking of graduate programs has placed the UH Physics Department among the top 12 in the country.
The university said Thursday that the department is grouped with programs at Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton and California, Berkeley.
The UH Manoa Physics Department occupied 81st place in the last comprehensive NRC graduate program survey completed in 1995.
The university says the 2010 NRC survey based on data initially gathered around 2005 identifies program characteristics that can be quantifiably measured, such as the number of publications and citations.
