Calhoun had to keep their band in the stands vs East...they were the visitors LOL
October 16, 2010 at 1:22 p.m.calhoun kept their band and drill team in the stands against east. i say leave the east/west band and drill team in the stands and move all the middle school kids and some student body into the end zone bleachers.
i must say, hats off to the new AD. the game day atmosphere this football season has been GREAT. i havent seen this kind of buzz around town since the old vhs days. ive heard the same about volleyball games, lot of support in the stands.
visd finally made a great AD hire, going with a qualified person with local ties.
October 16, 2010 at 12:10 p.m.RedRage, I agree with you on two points. #1, yes the size of the Band of Warriors and Legacy Dance Team allows them to fit in the end zone bleachers. #2, the Warriors lack fan support in the stands.
This just makes my point though. The band and dance team wouldn't take up that much room in the main stands and could easily be scrunched together a little more to allow for more fans in the stands. Also, why would anyone move supporters who actually MAKE NOISE out of the main stands.
I could barely hear the band last night and I could not see them. The lighting in the west end zone is horrible. While I could see the dance team in their new uniforms, I never heard a word they were cheering.
The band and dance team, along with the cheerleaders and fans and action on the field make up the whole experience. Heck, we even had a parent down on the sidelines with a microphone trying to get the crowd into the game. Someone said it was a cheerleader dad. Thank goodness for the cheerleaders last night. They were BANGING out the cheers. Even the football players were begging the crowd to get into the game. There is no doubt that the fans support their Warriors, but we just need to show it a little more. Tstorm - you keep right on goading us into being a little more vocal at the games. And I don't mean by booing, which is in poor taste. Just some good old-fashioned cheering for ANYTHING great that happens out on that field.
This is also a perfect opportunity to remind everyone to come out to the Warrior Volleyball game against the East. Come early to get a seat. It is going to be WILD. But if you come, be ready to stand up and cheer.
October 16, 2010 at 10:50 a.m.And Congrats to both East and West! Woohoo!
October 16, 2010 at 9:52 a.m.I think its a good idea to have the band in the endzone bleachers, at least for now while the band is small enough to fit in there. Southlake Carroll does the same thing with their band and drill team. I think its a good idea because you can actually hear the band from the stands if you're someone that likes to hear the music, etc.
Also, I have to agree with tstorm....the West fans are BORING! I've been to a game for both schools and East definitely has the fans and support. The Titan fans get crazy in the stands. You don't even have to tell them anything...they just get ROWDY!
October 16, 2010 at 9:51 a.m.I prefer the band n the endzone. I dont have family in band or drill but it was nice to HEAR and SEE the band and drill team. I think its a great idea. LEAVE THEM THERE!
We may not need this option since we cant fill the stands but either way its a great idea. I support it.
New attitude because you have a new AD. Playing the same team in volleyball as in football. The same location too. Then moving game times so the program can make both functions. Thanks!
October 16, 2010 at 8:49 a.m.The band was placed in the end zone due to what took place at the East vs Calhoun game. Fans showed up in such numbers that there was no place for people to go and kids were milling around under the stands. My opinion, put the kids in the bleachers in the end zones. Leave our Bands alone. Any kid milling around is asked to sit down alond the fence under the stands and not get up. If some parent turns their kid loose for the cops at Memorial to babysit, then treat them like babies and tell then to find a seat or we have one for you.
VISD, leave our Band's and Dance and Drill team alone.
I will say this, the atmosphere at Memorial Stadium is much nicer this year. The security folks are treating fans like humans. I have actually seen the security people talking to fans and smiling. Last year you would have thought the orders for security were, treat people like crap, and act like a jerk.
October 16, 2010 at 7:51 a.m.This year, same folks new attitude. I like it.
Warriorpride, not sure what the reason was that they had the band and drill team in endzone bleachers, but if it is anything like the packed stadium Calhoun always brings I would say it was because there needed to be room for everyone in attendance.
When we play at home our fans fill the home side and a solid half of the guests stands, so if we play a team that travels well like "the nation" does at home ours sit in the endzone as well. Personally I kind of like it that way as we can't hear our band or see our drill team's bleacher show when they are two sections down on the end of the home side.
Nothing brings in as much revenue for a school as football season does and with the economic squeeze that school districts have these days ticket sales are important. They can get hundreds in those bleachers that normally are where the band and drill teams sit.
Congratulations to all the winning teams tonight. Even though we play against each other, I hope that all the schools in our district root for one another and play their best on the field...let's not leave any room for anyone to call this district "weak."
October 16, 2010 at 2:39 a.m.Way to go Crabs on shutting up those arrogant GP fans! lol
October 16, 2010 at 1:34 a.m.Hell yea crabs!! knew yall would beat them!!
October 16, 2010 at 1:18 a.m.wow, what a HUGE win by the sandcrabs !!!!
great win sandcrab nation. the victoria west v. calhoun game will be HUGE. the winner will have the inside track for a playoff spot, no doubt.
victoria west seems to be really coming together, very nice win.
next weeks gp v. victoria east game will be another HUGE district match up, i predict a full house.
October 15, 2010 at 11:57 p.m.Great game tonight Warriors! Your fans really appreciate you taking care of business right off the bat. No cliffhanger this week. You seemed in control all night long.
What was up with putting the band and dance team in the end zone bleachers? Mrs. Crick - surely this isn't the way to build team spirit. We couldn't hear or see our great Band of Warriors. We couldn't hear or see our fabulous Legacy Dance Team. Our cheerleaders cheered their hearts out, but anyone with any sense at all knows that it is the combination of the band, the cheerleaders, and the dance team that raises the spirit of the crowd. I hope our band and dance team will not be banished to the end zone ever again. This was a bad idea all around.
Enough said about that. Congratulations also go out to the Warrior Volleyball players. Straight set wins for Varsity, JV, and the Freshmen. Way to go girls. Looking forward to the West-East game on Tuesday.
