  • Very good article. There is so much that we do take for granted. Do we really NEED the newest technology or gadget? Impressive cars and rims? Clothing with the hottest labels? Do these things really matter in the long run?

After leaving the colonias and arrived back on the "rich" side of town, I realized how rich the residents of the colonias are. I did not get the impression that they needed to show off or compete with each other. They loved on each other. They look out for all of the neighborhood children. They have so very little but they will give it away at a moment's notice.

While sitting and looking around in Whataburger, I realized the gift that the people of the colonias gave to me: the gift of home. I felt at home in their community. I was ready to turn around and go back.
