Extra eyes on the street are always a good idea. That's what the people of Six Mile are trying to do.
After a string of incidents, including an attempted break-in, Six Mile community members will hold their first meeting to start the Six Mile Neighborhood Watch organization, organizer Kenneth Wenske said.
"Our law enforcement is already pretty busy, so a few of us got together and decided we should have a meeting and find out what we citizens should be doing," Wenske said.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the meeting room of the Calhoun County Airport, 4876 Farm-to-Market Road 3084, Port Lavaca.
A sheriff's deputy will attend the meeting to give community members tips on how to keep an eye on the neighborhood, Wenske said.
Those attending the meeting will also help decide how often the group should meet, Wenske said.
"I don't think this is going to be a monthly meeting kind of thing, but we'll have to figure out what people want," Wenske said.
The main thing is to make sure people are informed about how to keep an eye on their neighborhoods, Wenske said.
"It's not to play cops, this is just a way to assist law enforcement," Wenske said.
