16 percent of county's voters voted early

There is no voting on Saturday, Sunday or Monday except for the following special circumstances:

Death in the family and the funeral is on Tuesday.

Sickness or disability which occurred after Oct. 24.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Almost 1,400 people voted Friday on the last day of early voting for Tuesday's General Election.

By the time voting ended at 7 p.m. Friday, 1,392 had cast their vote.

In the past two weeks, 8,285 people, or 16 percent, of the county's registered voters voted early.

Twenty-four percent more people came out to vote early in person than in 2006, according to a news release from Victoria County election administrator's office.

Thirty-seven peopled voted by mail on Friday. Of the 1,686 ballots mailed, 1,550 were returned by the end of the day Friday.

Victoria County has 51,692 registered voters.

Other area counties recorded double-digit percentage voting in the early vote.

Lavaca County

Total: 2,090, 15.74 percent

Voted in Person: 1,838

Voted by mail: 252

Registered voters: 13,282

Calhoun County

Total: 2,044, 16 percent

Voted my mail: 104

Registered voters: 12,711

DeWitt County

Total: 1,956, 16 percent

Voted in person: 1,781

Voted by mail: 175

Registered voters: 11,831

Number for other area counties were not available Friday night.
