Course offers safe food handling practices

The DeWitt County Texas AgriLife Extension Service will host "Food Safety: It's Our Business" Nov. 8 and 9 at the Friar Ag Center inside the Cuero Municipal Park.

The course, which costs $110, will prepare food service managers for a certification examination and provide information regarding safe food handling practices. Costs include training, materials and the state food manager certification exam.

Each year, one in four people nationwide becomes sick, one in 1,000 is hospitalized and 5,000 total people die due to foodborne illness.

Simple food safety practices can prevent such illness from occurring.
