A DeWitt County Department of Public Safety trooper driving a marked patrol vehicle was involved in a wreck Saturday night in Cuero that left two people injured, San Antonio Department of Public Safety officer Tommy Cavazos said.
Trooper Dustin Slovacek was driving westbound on Texas Highway 72 at 7:57 p.m. when his patrol vehicle collided with a 2002 Jeep Liberty at the intersection of Highway 72 and U.S. Highway 87. The driver of the vehicle, Aaron Rosales and Maria Fuentes, both 43, were heading southbound on U.S. Highway 87 when the patrol car hit the rear left driver's side door.
Rosales was taken to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria, and Fuentes was transported to University Hospital in San Antonio. Both are in stable condition.
Slovacek was not reported to have injuries.
No citations were issued in the accident, and fault could not be determined from the report, Cavazos said.

Chill out, Im certain this isnt a case of "When Good Cops Go Bad"
November 1, 2010 at 10:24 a.m.This isnt a case of the 17 year old jaywalker who got punched in the face. Its not Rodney King.
This is an accident. Its pretty obvious.
Yall have fun youtubing the jaywalker.
Maybe he was searching his onboard computer for the closest donut joint.
November 1, 2010 at 10:18 a.m.Maybe the officer was looking at his on-board computer screen when the accident occured.
November 1, 2010 at 9:48 a.m.I followed a VPD patrol car the other day on north Navarro. The Officer in the car was so busy looking at his CRT screen that he was swerving back and forth across two lanes of traffic. Good thing all of the drivers around him had good defensive driving ability.

"Maybe some cops should walk a mile in our shoes - you know, those shoes that actually get a speeding ticket, rather than flashing a badge and getting let off the hook. Or those of us that actually get arrested for DWI when we have been drinking and get pulled over. Then of course, there is always the "domestic disturbance" at a cop's house that results in no arrests."
November 1, 2010 at 8:43 a.m.The offense doesn't have to be witnessed by an LEO to result in a citation. That depends on evidence. As far as the investigation, if a LEO is involved, they will usually have an outside agency with jurisdiction in the area investigate. Most likely won't result in a citation, but it's possibble. They just let the insurance company determine fault. No officer wants to be "the one" to write a citation on another officer.
November 1, 2010 at 8:39 a.m.Highway 72 has a big red stop sign at the intersection of US87. Trooper rolled through a stop sign, would not surprise me.
November 1, 2010 at 8:30 a.m.If they get the right lawyer $$$
November 1, 2010 at 5:41 a.m.I wonder who's insurance will pay for the damages? Sounds like Rosales and Fuentes are about to get screwed by the state. It happened to my mother.
November 1, 2010 at 5:29 a.m.Of course no citations were issued. Sounds to me that the trooper failed to yield the right of way.
