AARP Chapter 829-Victoria held its meeting Aug. 31, at the Victoria County Senior Citizens Center on Murray Street.

Barbara Zimmerman, elder rights coordinator and ombudsman for the Area Agency on Aging, GCRPC, was the speaker. She informed the group of the many services her office and the volunteers provide for the residents of Texas long-term care facilities and their families. She urged members to visit their friends in nursing homes as often as they can, because loneliness is a major problem. The ombudsman program needs additional volunteers. After the meeting Gayle Harvey served refreshments during the fellowship hour.

The next meeting will be Sept. 28.
