City corner column: Parks department joins cyberspace age
The Parks and Recreation Department and many other city departments are joining the computer social networking age.
We started our Facebook page on Aug. 30. It will feature different events, information for athletic leagues, inform you about upcoming meetings and much, much more. Go to Facebook and ask to be a friend of the Victoria Parks Recreation.
Another way to get connected is through our website for athletic leagues - www.playvictoriatexas.com. You can register for our tournaments, review schedules, rule changes and migrate to other entities web pages such as girl's softball.
If you are interested in Community Center reservations go to www.victoriacommunitycenter.org.

Battle of the Badges at Riverside Stadium featuring a fantastic match up of power house athletes from the Victoria Police Department and the returning champions Victoria Fire Department will be on Sept. 11, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Musical entertainment by Thomas Short begins at 5:30 p.m. This titanic match up will benefit the Victoria United Way. Come out and enjoy a great game of kickball and support United Way. Entrance fee is $5 per person; children 6 years and under get in free.
Registration for fall softball and kickball will continue through Sept. 13. Call the parks office for more information.
