The St. Joseph volleyball team prepares to go back on the court after a timeout in a game earlier this season.

The St. Joseph Lady Flyer volleyball team kept their perfect TAPPS district 2-5A record intact with a dominating sweep of Laredo St. Augustine Wednesday.

Brianna Shimek had 11 kills and Brandi Calvo had seven aces to lead the Lady Flyers to the win. St. Joseph's overall record improves to 13-5 with the victory.

"It was a more decisive win tonight. They definitely played more to their speed," St. Joseph coach Allyson Griffin said.

Shimek said the Lady Flyers were ready for this district match even before the first serve.

"The other games we won, but this game we had energy throughout the whole game."

The Lady Flyers won the three games 25-11, 25-13 and 25-13. Griffin said her team did a better job of controlling the tempo and playing their game.

"It's definitely nice that we didn't go back and forth tonight that we played a little bit more to our speed," Griffin said. "I think they needed that going into Saturday."

Alli Bales, Kate Tucker and LeeAnn Dornak also had strong games for St. Joseph.

Bales had 11 digs, Tucker scored 13 service points and Dornak dished out 10 assists.

The Lady Flyers look to carry the momentum from the win into two road games at Austin St. Michael's and San Antonio St. Anthony before returning home Sept. 18.

"Our district road only gets tougher from here so they know they've got to turn it on going forward."
