Local Girl Scouts hosting rally, open house

RECEPTION PLANNEDA reception for Deborah Branch, the new chair of the board of directors of the Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Oak Room, 101 W. Goodwin St., One O'Connor Plaza, Suite 1200. Currently an assistant district attorney in the 156th Judicial District, Branch was a Girl Scout, then an adult leader in her native New York. The Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas will hold a Fall Kickoff Rally and Open House from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
The event will also include patriotic service projects, marking the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as a religious awards program, story telling, songs, games and crafts, according to a news release.
Kohl's employees, as part of the Kohl's Cares program, will also be on hand take part in the festivities.
Girl Scouts who come in uniform will receive a special patriotic commemorative patch. New or returning members who register at the event will receive a 15-percent-off coupon in the Girl Scout Shop.
The Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas serves 26 counties from Victoria, to Corpus Christi, the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo. The council currently serves 17,000 Girl Scouts and more than 2,000 volunteers.
