Paint your boots: Art league hosting boot art competition
Sept. 15, 2010 at 4:15 a.m.
The Victoria Art League is taking the new city branding campaign "Bring Your Boots" to heart. Or perhaps more accurately, they are taking it to art.
The art league is hosting the "Boots for Bucks" art competition this fall and calling for entries through Nov. 6. Participants are being asked to decorate and paint a boot of any style and condition, which will then be auctioned off as a fundraiser at the city's first Boot Fest celebration next year, according to a news release.
There is no entry fee if the decorated boot is donated to the future auction, which will raise money to support the league's educational classes and workshops. If the entry is not donated, there is a $5 fee, according to the release.
The competition has two divisions. The youth division includes anyone in grades 6-12 and the adult division is for anyone 18-years-old and older. All entries will be displayed at the league's gallery during the month of November for public viewing and so people can vote for the Best of Show winner for each division.
Winners will be announced at 2 p.m. Dec. 4, and winners will receive $100.
The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Nov. 6. For more information, call the art league at 361-572-0825 or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
