  • Something to consider. If the "Adult" material was seen on a company owned computer it would (or should) be a violation of policy. The hard disk will have the site and access information still on it.

  • I actually have more concern about the allegations that violate federal labor laws. It sounds like Ms. Elsik was honestly answering the federal investigator and was then punished because of it, according to the article. If that is the case, it would seem Ms. Elsik has a successful lawsuit in her future as well. If the information in the article is untrue, it needs to be corrected.

Also, most organizations, especially ones the size of Detar, have a clearly defined policy for dealing with sexual harassment claims, which includes protection of the complainant from retaliation. In fact, I believe ANY entity that receives federal funds of any type is required to have a fully compliant sexual harassment policy as well as a "whistle blower" policy. Are there any labor attorneys willing to offer more information on the law?

  • @thewaywardwind, that was my point. There was a day when you could have just said "porn" and everyone would understand it as the adult kind. Nowadays, you have to clarify because it very well maybe the illegal and even more sickening kind. I also don't think adult porn is two adults having fun. In many cases, the women are abused into it. In more cases, porn is becoming a problem for marriages. In many cases it can be considered a psychological dysfunction or sexual deviancy.

However, my main point is that if you have to label what kind of porn something is so that the public doesn't think it may be that which abuses minors, then we live in a sick culture.

  • Why punish children for imitating the adults who have the most influence over them? =P

    September 24, 2010 at 8:24 a.m.
  • Rebecca...We call it adult because when children do it, they get a spanking.

    September 24, 2010 at 7:50 a.m.
  • As so many have already commented .... these claims are JUST ALLEGATIONS! Do we need to explain what that means? It means that a claim has been made and there is an investigation going on to determine the validity of the claims. However, these UNVERIFIED claims are have now been posted for the "world" to view. Now, whose character is REALLY being damaged?

Seriously people! Wake up. Just because an article is written does not make it GOSPEL!! Just stay posted ... I am quite sure that the truth will show quite the opposite of these "claims".

AND, by the way ... being on "leave" does not constitute being fired!

    September 23, 2010 at 10:19 p.m.
  • You may see it all as wrong, but I see one as criminal. Maybe you are thinking of "adult" language? Why call it "adult?"

    September 23, 2010 at 9:46 p.m.
  • Jared, it's simple. Porn doesn't need to be clarified. Regular porn IS adult porn with adults -- real grown-ups -- having fun and getting paid for it as opposed to "kiddie porn" which uses little children who are in no way sexually attractive to anyone normal.

  • Sexual harrassment is a civil matter, not a criminal matter.

The folks being sued will either be found liable for damages or not.

    September 23, 2010 at 8:26 p.m.
  • Give me a break......this whole thing is still in the "he said" "she said" status. Everyone just back off and see what happens. Hey, I am female, but it is a fact that males are at a distinct disadvantage these days because anytime a woman employee gets tiffed she can come up with a story that reads as "sexual harassment". It's a shame! Real sexual harassment should be punished....and God knows there is enough of that going on.....but there should be more proof than just one person's testimony. If Mr. Bludau really was guilty, you can bet someone else heard or knows something. No judgments yet....Everyone deserves to be innocent until proven guilty.

  • txriver, what are you talking about? DeTar was given a chance to comment on the accusations and suit, but chose not to.

i guess if one side doesn't offer anything to the article then it can be considered one sided.

these allegations are serious and could have a huge impact on DeTar and its executive structure. if the allegations are found the be false, you bet that there will be a counter-suit.

    September 23, 2010 at 6:35 p.m.
  • This article has a one sided purpose!
Our community leaders have worked with such a commitment recently to show case Victoria as a growing and vital place to live and support our families. Again the advocate has shown a pitiful approach to a contentious situation. It's a shame we don't have any responsibility in reporting and such narrow minded staff and readers that will believe anything without knowing the facts.

    September 23, 2010 at 4:42 p.m.
  • I do not understand how, in this day and age, there are still folks who think sexual harrassment is harmless.

I guess there will always be those who drag their knuckles no matter how enlightened the rest of the world becomes.

To the two ladies involved, you have my utmost respect for your courageous effort. Good luck.

    September 23, 2010 at 3:10 p.m.
  • Kinda off topic for the article, but, I thought it strange that we have to clarify porn these days. Pretty sick if you think about it. These days you have to say "adult porn" to get the point across that it wasn't another kind. Strange days, strange days.

  • Is she suing for being fired or sexual harassment? If it's true, I hope she takes them to the bank. But if it's false accusations, I hate that someone has lost their reputation and I think she should be prosecuted.

    September 23, 2010 at 12:58 p.m.
  • Wait, let's hold on a minute. I thought these are "Allegations" not proven facts. She is suing for damages for injury to her character, the same could be done on behalf of the the hospital, aren't these allegations also damaging to the hospital and the staff named? I think attaching the photo of William Blanchard is also misleading. For those posting comments, why don't we wait until we hear the facts & not base our "opinions" on "allegations?"

Sometimes we all need to sit back, take a deep breath, look at ourselves, & ask ourselves if we are really being fair. These are serious allegations that should be investigated & based upon fact rather than emotion and heresay.

At ajt20m - why are you so quick to say, "I hope she wins and these men are held accountable for their behavior. Sad thing is I don't think this is the first time this is happened with these men." Why would you say something like this? Perhaps, you should read the whole article next time? Did you read it? Do you know the definition of "allegation?" I'm hoping you are never serving on a jury.

Just my opinion, but I don't know how someone could show you adult porn "against your will" at work. Again, just my opinion, since I don't have all the facts.

  • Awhit...Boy! I'm glad I don't work for you. You'd fire your employees for not obtaining a doctor's note if they were out sick but didn't need to see the doctor? Where I work the rule is three days and see the doc and get a release to return to work. I think that's fair and reasonable.

"Then 90 % of all sexual harassment charges are the two people start off joking around together then one gets mad and whamo grow up people"

Where did you get this statistic from?

  • awhit. I am sure you have a very successful salt mine. Regarding employee rights you may want to do some research before you do something costly.

  • I am an owner of a business, If my employess dont want to come to work with out doctor notes bye bye, I have business to run and they are hired to help run my business if they refuse to work under my rules, free country get another job. Then 90 % of all sexual harassment charges are the two people start off joking around together then one gets mad and whamo grow up people. I am sorry to hear about her mother and I hope everything goes good. But if you were hired to do a job every day you miss it makes others work harder.

  • The "juicy gossip" aside there is a very serious issue here. If the facts show this is true it could be damaging to Detar's daily operations. My concern is if the management has this lack of respect for staff how does it impact the patients? My family has used Detar and like any hospital you must make yourself clear what you will accept in terms of care.

  • If what she says is true, I hope she wins big! There are too many high ranking officials, that get away with things like sexual harressment. If sh is lying, that will come out too.
