  • archiebonkers2,

I thought I was the only one who caught that. I'm not even Hispanic and I know that Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day. I think the best way to celebrate one's culture is to actually know something about it (like when your Independence Day really is).

  • Diez y Seis de Septiembre is Mexico's Independence Day! Mexico just celebrated 200 years of freedom! Cinco de Mayo is not!

It only took a couple of minutes to pull up these two.

"The history of the black community is definitely in the church," said Virginia Evans, a longtime Sunday school teacher of Shiloh Baptist Church, an historically black church in Edna. Evans keeps much of the history of the black community in Jackson County.

Kolache lovers from across the area listened to Czech music, socialized with friends and without a doubt, enjoyed their favorite kolaches at Saturday's 16th annual Kolache Fest in the Knights of Columbus Hall.

But the event is about more than just loving kolaches, it's about celebrating Czech heritage.

Yvonne Yeoman and Yvette Hoffmann still can see their grandmother working up a storm in the kitchen as she baked fresh kolaches.

I remember several of my friends were interviewed for different ethnic stories throughout the years......

You were not forced to read the article.

  • Grouch - my intention was to merely answer your question. I will not get into a race discussion.

That would be a question you should pose to the VicAd; try contacting their moderators or the editor.

  • SugarMagnolia:
When did the Advocate ever interview any other ethnic group about their heritage?
I don't recall anyone being interviewed in Black History Month.

  • Grouch - if you'll look underneath the photo, it states "Hispanic Heritage Month Profile". The VicAd has been doing this during the last couple of weeks to highlight some local Hispanics for Hispanic Heritage Month.

  • To: Victoria Advocate.
Why so many interviews with Hispanics?
Why do you not also give due diligence towards the other ethnicities?
Please - before everyone gets upset, this is not a quection intended as negative toward the Hispanic culture. I just wonder why the other peoples that also make up our community are not also treated the same.
