October has arrived. It's my favorite month of the year for several reasons, first, being Halloween; second, the change in the weather; and third, the amount of great live shows in the area.

When I lived in Houston, the local radio stations would always dub this month "rocktober" because of the amount of live shows scheduled during these 31 days. So, why not kick off the month with a fitting band, The Cult, performing Friday at the House Of Blues in Houston? The band has had several line-ups, but founding members and songwriters, Ian Astbury (vocalist), and Billy Duff (guitarist), remain intact. If you go to the show, you're sure to hear Cult classics like "Love Removal Machine" and "She Sells Sanctuary," as well as a new song or two.

The band just released a four-track "Capsule," which features the first new studio recording since 2007, "Every Man And Woman Is A Star." You can purchase it online at www.cultcapsulestore.com. Tickets for the House Of Blues show are $35 for general admission and $45 for balcony seats and available at www.livenation.com.

MUSIC BUZZ

Lil Wayne's new LP, "I Am Not A Human Being," dropped digitally this week. Drake appears on several songs, as well as Nicki Minaj and the Young Money family checks in throughout the LP. The physical album drops in stores Oct. 12 and will feature three more songs.

Katy Perry will appear in an episode of "The Simpsons" later this year. Perry will appear as herself in an unusual live-action/animation segment. The singer will star alongside other "Simpsons" characters, who will be transformed into Muppet-like puppets. Perry's appearance is set for the Dec. 5 episode titled "Teenage Dream." She reportedly plays bartender Moe's girlfriend and leads the gang in a rousing rendition of "The 39 Days of Christmas." The episode airs on Fox Nov. 24.

Joe Friar is the Program Director at radio station 95 KVIC and the host of the Breakfast Buzz morning show. Weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m. on 95.1 FM in Victoria.
